Has anyone seen these cubes around that are claiming to be the worlds smoothest at turning?

They sell them for $10 in Australia all over the place. Parents will usually opt for these instead of a $30 Rubik's Cube.

I think this is one factor that's affecting the popularity of Rubik's Cubes these days: poorly designed imitations.

If you've ever used such a cube you'll know that you've to align the cubies perfectly or you'll end up jamming the cube. To make matters worse the core is made out of plastic (no screws) so it'll inevitably become too loose and the owner will discard it.

i don't know if i will be thankful or not coz i've discovered the cube because of immitations, in our hometown, we don't have original cubes in our toystore unless we order online. i learned the cube using the immitation. when i realized that i wanted to get faster, i searched for better cubes and found the rubiks.com and cube4you.com cubes... at least now, we have the rubiks.com cubes at toysRus...

Hi Tim,

The cube you describe sounds exactly like the Mefferts 3x3x3, which is by no means a "cheap" imitation (although the quality of its design is certainly debatable). My Mefferts 3x3x3 spins effortlessly - just so long as everything is perfectly aligned. But cutting corners is impossible. I can't speak for how durable the cube is because I don't use it very often - I'm sure you can understand why.

One of these days I'll figure out how to take it apart, and I'll post pictures of the internal mechanism.

If it came with a pink key thing u can just pull the white cap off by hooking something in the hole and ripping it out (it wont break it).

Then you need the other part of the pink thingy to press the core thingy inwards to pop the whole center piece out and the rest will fall apart.
