Today, I picked some "Liquid Wrench" brand silicone in order to lube my cubes.

I first decided to lube my storebought in case I messed up on my DIY. I watched Memyselfandpi's video tutorial. So I cleaned the vaseline off it and layed the peices out and sprayed them for a few seconds, waited a few minutes, then re-assembled it. I assuemd it would be completely dry by then but there was still a bit of wetness on the pieces. The silicone did not improve the turning at all, and may have even made it worse. I don't want to try this on my DIY until I figure out what's wrong. Is Liquid Wrench a bad brand? Did i put on too much/too little? Did it not wait long enough before reassemmbly? In the video, he put it together immediately after spraying.

And please don't tell me to use the search function. I have a specific problem in that I followed the tutorial word for word and it still didn't work. This is a personal question, not a general one.

Silicone generally will act as glue unless completely dry. It probably partly has to do with your brand of lube, but I would leave the cube out in the sun for a few minutes or somewhere hot and see if there is any improvement.

I originally had liquid wrench, but it never dries, and when it feels dry, the lubricant has actually evaporated. It sticks up cubes. Go get some crc, it's $3 from amazon and makes a WORLD of difference.

Is *all* of the vaseline gone? Did you just wipe it off with a towel? I would use a mild cleaning agent to remove everything from the cube pieces first. Simple Green is amazing and should remove the vaseline well. Note that you don't have to use Simple Green full stregth; it's a bit of a waste. Dilluted 30 to 1 with water is a good general purpose cleaner. 1:1 with water is a very strong cleaner.

After the pieces are clean and dry, then try the silicone again. I suspect you have a thin film of vaseline and silicone mixed together which isn't working so well. Get it clean, apply the silicone and you should feel a difference.

Brian.
