My rubik's 4x4x4 is extremely loose, it locks alot. Is there anything I can do to make it more tight, or is it just different for each cube? It's a simple store-bought cube, and I did nothing to modify it except spray in some silicone and tighten the two screws (which did nothing).

After having gone through several Rubik's 4x4's that became worthless because they were too loose, I finally have one that is totally sweet.

What did I do to make it so sweet? Actually... NOTHING!!!!

This time, I didn't lube it; I just used it. I think the trick with Rubik's brand big cubes is NOT to lube them. They will loosen on their own with use, and once they get too loose there isn't much you can do to fix them. I don't know if this one will eventually become too loose as well, but at least I'm not hastening its demise.

By the way, they are pretty cheap in the stores right now. Maybe your best bet would be to purchase a new one and save the old one for parts.

abbra, lubing it would decrease the friction thus it wouldn't wear down as quickly.

Erik used an Eastheen 4x4x4 for the current WR average.
Marc van Beest used an Eastheen 4x4x4 at his first competition and got an 48.28 solve.
I use Eastheen for the 4x4x4 (tough I don't practise it). :)

I'd have used a rubik's if I had a good one ;) but at least ES are stable and don't pop!

Why didn't you use your V Cube? At the Belgian Open I mean.

Although V-Cubes are great, they cannot magically shift shapes. Erik has a 5x5 V-Cube. 4x4 V-Cubes haven't been produced at all, actually. The only prototypes that have been produced are 5x5 upto 7x7.
