I think I got somewhere around a :45-:48 before switching to Fridrich. That was a couple years ago and I'm just now back down to a 1:15 average. Kind of sad really... I was much much faster with LBL... I'm sure it was all recognition though. Using LBL I had absolutely no pauses... Using Fridrich now, I spend as much time looking as I do executing.

I just did an average of 5 with LBL + 4LLL:

27.83 25.35 (34.57) 26.05 (22.47) = 26.41s.

But when i switched to Fridrich my average with LBL was about 1:30 minutes.

/edit: 25.79s. The turning speed you can get with LBL is incredible and addicting :).

I did an average just now, using essentially what was my first LBL solution when I first started cubing. I updated my old method a bit with 2-gen edge 3 cycles, sune for corner orientation instead of orienting corners last, finger tricks, and a cube that is actually lubed ;-)

30.33, 32.70, (36.58), 28.97, 29.92, 30.08, 25.88, 28.52, 28.45, 26.88, (19.79), 23.61 = 28.53

This was done LBL with a 4LLL. On the 19.79 I skipped corner permutation, so I guess it was technically a little lucky. I think I remember Dan Knights even back in 1999 was averaging sub-20 or close to it with a 4LLL just for fun (his main method was Fridrich at that point).

I also remember my "switch" when I changed from a key-hole LBL (my second, and for a while fastest method) to Fridrich. My times got a lot slower at first, but pretty quickly they improved far beyond my LBL times. For those who are currently "switching" keep with it, for whichever speed method you are switching to, they are all fast.

Before switching to Fridrich I averaged in the low 50's and my best was something in the low 40's using the Dan Brown method.
EDIT: Just took an average of 5 with 4LLL and here are my times:
1) (36.12) Pretty good, recognition was off by a little but overall smooth.
2) (58.62) Hehe, beginning to like this :) messed up on PLL, not used to doing 2 look PLL. :p
3) 36.77 LOL when I let go of the timer to begin the solve the cube just flew out of my hands onto the ground! Otherwise pretty good solve.:)
4) 56.07 Messed up on PLL again, other than that, good solve.
5) 42.59 Solve was pretty much good but had a pop.:(
Average: 46.03

DO you guys just do LBL the whole time? When I was at around 1m 10s avg I started F2L/LBL hybrid which got me down to around 45s

As you get below 30s times, you are approaching the theoretical limit of LBL. Considering that it has something like 100 turns per solve, and that you couldn't exceed 4 moves per second without creating a rift in the space-time continuum... that would leave you with 25 seconds to solve it.

Say you are on ryanheise simulator and you type at 100wpm, that's 500 keys per minute. Assuming that you also press a key for rotations and you have 5 of them and the solves is 80-110 moves. and you spend in total 3 seconds for recognitions, that's 12+3 = 15 seconds. That's definitely possible. My friend who's a 90-100wpm typer and a beginner at cubing has gotten several sub-20 results and averages 26ish.
That's easily the same on a real cube. I believe the current top solves are about 5-6 tps. 100/5 is 20. And for LBL, the recognition should be easier for F2L, probably 7 tps is possible on a solve.
Erik did have a sub-20 average.

Top layer, middle layer, then last layer. You finish the cube in layers. That's the only restriction.

right...let me do one average

...

Average: 22.13 sec.
Individual Times: 25.28, 20.83, 20.20, 19.35, 25.75, 23.89, 19.70, (19.03), 24.19, 22.54, (DNF), 19.61

19.03 was PLL skip, DNF was a pop at PLL, and I did the wrong OLL on the 25.75

My best LBL solve was ~23, although my average was closer to 33-34 seconds.

So you finished the F2L and used 21 PLLs and 57 OLLs?
