[Help Thread] Kilominx Discussion and Help

I just got my Kilo today, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to make a side instead of the first layer and then turn it into a layer with an alg from there since sometimes I'll see like 3 pieces connected but not the right order. This may be really bad though, idk. Also what should be the average move count for the first layer?

One problem with that, is you're doing an alg on the bottom, and look ahead.

I wouldn't recommend solving a side regardless of permutation unless you can find some very very quick algs (i.e. R2 F2 R2 for 2x2 when you have a diag swap). And I don't think those exist.

Usually my layers are 10-12 moves, sometimes much less depending on the scramble. I'd say try and go for 10 or less moves in practice. But sometimes 12 moves can be much easier to see and much easier to execute, like if it has a couple of three move corner insertions then that's half your moves, but they can be executed quickly.

On the cubicles sticker sets for the SS kilominx, there are stickers for the center. Would this change anything about how it is solved? This would take away your versatility on where to solve your layers though, so it would hinder your solving it would think. What are your guy's thoughts on this?

If Kilo becomes official (everyone knows my position on that, I'm sure) I think that those stickers should be allowed, but ignored completely for all WCA purposes, including solved state, scrambling orientation, etc.

Side note: I'm announcing tonight that the next MRFC will have a Kilominx event.

Huh, where'd you see that?
That's true, the first batch of stickers contained the center sticker, but we decided not to include it in future batches for solving reasons. I'm a little surprised that information about the first batch got out.

I just went on the cubicle and clicked on kilominx stickers and it showed that and noted it in the description, and it still does

I'm curious what people's global average is on Megaminx compared to their global average on Kilominx. Mine is 1:12 to ~32. I feel like my Kilominx times are slow compared to my Megaminx times

Same. My global Mega average is probably like 1:07, whereas on Kilominx I average around 38, although to be fair, I haven't put nearly as much time into Kilominx as I have into Megaminx. I'd like to practice it a lot more before my next comp since it's an unofficial event there.

How long does it take you guys to do LL? I just got mine today, so just starting on learning the OLLs (in a rather inefficient way) and it takes me a while.

I also don't see good first layers. Are there any walk through solves by fast people?
