[WR] Kabyanil Talukdar 3BLD 27.63 mean

I definitely don't think the average should be scrapped, it should probably stay as WR. Was no mistake of his. If this is to be scrapped and the resolve considered, probably all other previous attempts of judges ' faults should be given DNFs too, a rule is a rule.

This keeps coming up. I'm okay with some rules and decisions I dislike, but I can't stand the inconsistency. How are we supposed to know when a judge mistake will ruin a solve/average or not when there is no consistent history. Just take a wild guess?

What I find rather strange is that, I believe the judge is Yuhei Takagi, someone who specializes in BLD events. It would seem odd that an "expert" in this field could make such a mistake. However I am not trying to imply that this might have been an act of sabotage or anything. I don't believe Yuhei could have been trying to win since he did not reach the finals. Also Kabyanil already had an official 25, so the only thing he could have ruined was the mean which doesn't determine the winner.

Maybe he was too astounded by Kabyanil's speed :D

*Le wild judge puts paper in front of him for a second as soon he stops timer.
Awesome solves. Even more awesome fact that you still got a great solve despite such an unnecessary resolve when most others struggle to get one success.

This is very different to a corner twist since that is always the competitor's responsibility or a misscramble as that means different solving conditions than other participants.
Therefore I request everyone on this forum to not compare it to other incidents and treat it as an independent incident because "the solving conditions did not provide any kind of advantage."
The only reason the rule of keeping paper was brought was to avoid peeking under the bindfold after Matyas fake WR's. In this scenario, the participant definitely has no idea there is not a paper behind the blindfold and wont even think about suddenly trying to take advantage after his eyes are below the blindfold. If he takes that decision after 10 seconds of memo . I am sure even the fastest BLDer in the world cannot get a 25 second solve. It is better to have a safety resolve anyway rather than DNF later but I am positive that it wont be counted eventually :)

Wait. What are you trying to say? I don't get you
I'm not really taking a position, I just wish there was some official policy on issues like this. If we have to DNF judges mistakes okay. If it's cases by case or some type of grading system, okay. Here, Chris kept his WR, which is still his best official average, yet here Kabyanil loses his WR because of a judges mistake and if you asked me which is more of an advantage to competitors, more inspection for 2x2 or a missing piece or paper for BLD, I would say the inspection. If this stays non-WR then Chris should lose his 1.71 average and any other similar events should be changed and in the future instead of it being a huge controversy we're just disappointed at an unfortunate turn of events.

Is it possible that the judge was very impressed by Kabyanil and just wanted to see him execute the last solve and in doing so forget to keep that piece of paper and not realising the consequences of doing so?

I think the title of the thread be changed so that more people visit this thread. It must be something like WR2 BLD Mo3, or something like that.

Angel Lim's no paper incident was only caught after the fact. Since the incident with Kabyanil was caught at the comp, it was dealt with then and there accordingly.

Akash Rupela's NR single of 6.xy, at Indian Nationals 2014, was caught after the competition. with no mistake of his. To be precise The cube was scrambled to F2 L' U' R U' L' B R' L2 F L' F2 B2 U2 F2 L' F2 U2 L instead of F2 L' U' R' U' L' B R' L2 F L' F2 B2 U2 F2 L' F2 U2 L. Notice the single replacement of R to R'. and approximately 1 week later the NR was taken away from Akash Rupela, and given a DNF for no mistake of his.

How is this consistent with Angel Lim's incident, even that incident was caught after the comp.

For the sake of consistency in RULES this needs to be revoked.

.

1. Of course it should be a WR, it's not his fault.

2. It's a 2nd guy beating a WR in average that two days earlier I didn't even know that he exists. It's not good xD

Yes, true. There needs to be consistency and I hope they are clear enough in the 2015 regulations, and Kabyanil gets the WR here. Clearly not advantageous anywhere and definitely not his mistake.

Slightly related: If Kabyanil had DNFed the last solve and the judge forgot about the paper shield, would he still be awarded with an extra attempt? Because I'm thinking it would be a case of: "Well guys, he got a DNF anyway so it doesn't matter"

Also, if he had DNFed the reattempt, what would have the case been. He would have been deprive of a mean (WR 1-5).
