Is there any cutting involved in making a fused 3x3x3 cube?

Just wanted to know before I go buy some storeboughts. It looks like a fun and easy mod compared to the many super complicated (or ones I don't have materials for) mods. I couldn't find any tutorials to make the fused cube, and from Ton's pictures I can't tell if I need to cut a center or two off to fuse the cores.

My local Target has been out of stock this whole week, but when they do restock, I can make myself look like a fool by buying 3 rubik's cubes and nothing else. :D One for the sake of cubing, and two to mod. It's a shame I don't live within walking distance to any other department stores, otherwise I'm sure I could have had some by now.

And about solving it, from what I understand, it's like solving the cube twice, but with a portion cut off, and moves are restricted to F, R and U, or F, L and U, depending on how you hold it. Or is it different?

Yes, there is a little minor cutting involved. Well, it's more like sanding. You should be able to tell where based on Ton's pictures. It's tough to describe through words.

wait are you talking about siamese, 3x3x4,?

siamese you solve all 2 gen
3x3x4 is exactly like a 3x3, but you super glue a layer on and you want to sand the peices to it will stick

I saw a video (the only) on youtube of the making of a fused cube, and I don't quite get why you have to sand the insides. I only have one 3x3x3 right now, so I can't really check with two cores because I only have one.

I'm talking about this cube:

IMO non functional 3x3x4 is a completely stupid mod, it's pointless, really. Siamese cube doesn't seem as interesting. Siamese cube doesn't look as cool to me, plus it looks easier. And like it'd break much faster...

ah i see that mod, not many people do it for some reason, you sand the peices so they can fit and the glue will have a stronger bond. thats really all i cant tell you about it because i dont know much myself

I finally got some cubes to make this! I see how the sanding works now, otherwise the edges wouldn't go in.

I'm probably going to do this over the weekend when I have time. Will there be any extra corners? From the pictures it looks like I'll have two extra. I might put white on the inside so I can peel off the white Rubik's sticker, take a corner, and make a mock 1x1x1 official Rubik's cube... for pure novelty and to make my non cuber friends laugh.
