ok well i'm staring to learn the F2L method and i think it's going alright but i don't like using the PLL OR OLL thing's so i orient edges then place them then orient corners then place them but is it worth learning to get faster?

Fridrich LL is something you'll want to learn eventually, but not now and especially not all at once.

You should always orient before you permute because if you're permuting edges before orienting corners, you're not using sunes to orient, and whatever else you use (Niklas or whatever) will be slower.

woosh,I highly recommend forgetting about OLL and PLL right now. Learn f2l, either by learning the algs or intuitively, and then just practice it. I only use 7 OLL algs and I can sub 20 average. Master f2l first, then worry about the last layer.

u need to learn them to get sub 30
(and be world's top cubers :)
but if u can't, u can orient edges, use coll, and do easy edge perm

learn them. one a day or slower. make yourself a definite schedule, and convert this process into a ritual. when I was learning them, I would usually learn the algo right before sleep, and when i woke up I always eagerly grabbed the cube and tested if i still remember it :)
I actually miss the memorization days :p

To answer the original question: Yes, OLL and PLL are easy. However, I think AvGalen is technically correct. You can get very good with even the most basic of methods. But, the point is (and this is likely what Dcuber meant) that if you're going to put in a ton of work and try to get really fast, you'd be silly to use an inefficient method.

To learn all 57 algorithms might be a little more work (I don't know them all), but I use about 31 algorithms for the last layer (a 3LLL) and I'm happy with that.

You should learn at least a 4LLL (orient edges, orient corners, permute corners, permute edges--four steps). It only takes a few days. There are mayn algorithms for each case, but I posted one such collection in a word document: http://www.geocities.com/ladartfrog/4LLL.doc

If you're going to use fridrich, you should definetely start learning those. Any questions: ask here.

The memorization of the OLL is harder then PLL and F2L, but OLL and PLL is easier to master then F2L.
