Is it time for me to ditch the beginner's method?

Im still using the beginners method with cross on top, Imalmost always sub one minute :). I also think Dan Knights still solves the cross on the top, and he can do sub 15s mostly. So I think this is a different way of thinking, like when you run with spiked shoes or not, you have different times even though they are preety much the same.

I do have to start learning Fridich F2L...:)

well..I think because his fingertricks and look ahead are very fast...
today I met a cuber and I found out that his fingertricks is way much better than mine..he started around the same time as me, maybe more a month or something.. but he is still using beginner method and with average 31~33, I am using semi fridrich(3 look LL and intuitive f2l) and I am average 27~29.. my average moves count around 70 and his if not mistaken 95~100.. 25~30 turns diff but just 3 secs diff on average.. so I guess this applies to dan knights.. his fingertricks and look ahead should be very good.

Nope, Dan definitely solves cross on bottom. And the difference becomes much more apparent the faster you get. I'm at 30 seconds right now, I just did an average with cross on top and got 35 seconds. It kills your look ahead and just wastes time with a cube rotation.

yay just got a 33.5 avg of 5 with begginers method and 4LLL.
maybe you dont need to use f2l or 3/2 look;)

p.s sorry this is vaguely unrelated...
You definitely don't. Its an extreme example but there's a video of Erik doing a sub-20 average with LBL and 4LLL. Now, that's beyond most people's capability, but it just goes to show you how much lookahead helps in your solve :)

Sometimes I do cross on top for OH, because the grip is easier. Switching was also very easy for me. Took me maybe only 5 solves to get used to it? Still, I recall someone on the top of ryanheise.com list using cross of top to get a sub-10 solve...

From http://http://dan.knights.googlepages.com/cube-index.html
Fridrich solves the cube as follows:

Solve the first side cross (I do this on top, and then turn the cube over). (about 2 seconds, done by intuition)
Insert each of the four first-layer corners with its neighboring middle-layer edge piece. (1.75 seconds each = 7 seconds, requires 20 algorithms and some intuition).
Orient all corners and edges in the top layer simulaneously (i.e., get the top all one color). (2 seconds, requires 57 algorithms)
Permute (i.e. position) all corners and edges in the top layer simultaneously (2.5 seconds, requires 21 algorithms)

Maybe since this site hasnt been updated in awhile?

Edit: What exactly does LBL stand for? I've always wondered...

ok guys, I just did a comparison now I've been practising,

Beginners 10 of 12 - 48.81
Fridrich 10 of 12 - 46.41

This confirms I won't be using beginners again.

I also just got my first ever sub-30 solve - 29.92

Thanks. Now I remember :p. I forget things cuz I memorize a lot of stuff. Ive got Fridich, some Ortega, a speech for English, several dance ruotines, oh yeah, and throw a couple tests in there.
