Is 2LPLL actually any good?

I currently use the beginner method. Cross takes me 4 - 5 seconds, and I finish F2L at around 25 - 30 seconds (but don't know any F2L algs).

When I get to last layer I orient edges, then I permutate corners. I look for 2 corners to swap and do L R' U L' U' R U L U' L' (or the mirror of this if they're on the right). Most of the time it's just the 2 corners, but if there's a diagonal corner swap, I have to do this alg twice.

Then I orient corners with sune/antisune once or twice because I don't know any other OLLs, then I finish with the edges, I know H, Z, Ua, Ub; all the edge only perms. I average 45 seconds.

I'm about to learn 2 look PLL, which is only an extra 2 algs. I won't have to do the corner swap algorithm after I get the cross, but I'll then have to do the PLL when I get to the last layer, so surely it won't reduce my time by more than a couple of seconds?

PLL will help you a lot more than you think. Maybe it won't help much right now, but when you are getting faster it will be extremely helpful.

Using a Beginner method, Learning 2LPLL should speed you up quite a bit after some practice. Going from 2LPLL to Full PLL will only improve your times by a few seconds, 5-6 for me personally, although im pretty slow!

Hah! You use the same beginners' method I did! :) That makes me happy for some reason!

Think of 2 look PLL as an investment into your future speedsolving life. For two extra algs, it's an easy step towards full Fridrich. After that, you should definitely look into 2 look OLL (this -in combination with your new 2 look PLL- will be where you start to notice significant improvements) and then onto full PLL and OLL.

Unlike most people, I strongly encourage you to learn full OLL right off the back of full PLL. It may seem like a daunting task but it's far easier to keep learning while you're in algorithm learning mode than it is to force yourself to start again later on down the line. As meph says, "don't be lazy!" :p You'll be done before you know it.

good luck!

EDIT:
I'm not sure where you're getting your algs from but, just for completeness, here's a link to badmephisto’s PLL page (and his 2 Look PLL PDF) and OLL page (plus 2 Look OLL PDF). He also has excellent videos on youtube.

I also feel like I should link you to Andy Klise’s site, which has some absolutely stunning PDFs.

i also use the begginer's method like u. But i use 2-look pll and oll, too. it was quite hard

re:..

just the first few days actually. After, well maybe a week practising, your time will go down A LOT. i am learning the f2l at the moment!

I recently learned full PLL, of course I am slow with it right now however, when I do recognize/execute quickly I have noticed much faster times. As I get more time to practice and get used to executing the algorithms in addition to improving recognition, I suspect that my times will improve overall.

2-Look OLL I think is useful for someone who has a slow TPS like me, I timed a 2-Look OLL VS single algorithm and the time improvement was on average 3 to 4 seconds. If you have a very fast TPS, 2-Look OLL would probably be fine however, I think full PLL is worth the effort (and it was not difficult to learn) since it finishes the solve.

Most people here will tell you not to even worry about full OLL until you are sub20. I can see their logic in that, especially when you realize that your F2L is over 20 seconds alone, and the only time 2loll is only rough when you have to do F R U R' U' F' and f R U R' U' f back to back plus the oll 23 (superman oll). Both of those algs can be done in 1.5 seconds or less easily (especially for the really fast people here), and most of the time you end up with an easy OLL after that, but when it's superman it sucks.

2LPLL is quite handy, you only have to learn I think 7 algs total, most of which you say you know. I can show you a PLL method that you only have to learn a few algs but the E perm is NOT included in it (neither is the Z) so you'd have to do A twice for the E perms and U twice for the Z and H perms.

Just finished pll

Permute last layer
learn it-all of it, right now.
Start now, finish soon.

but when it's superman it sucks.
The reason people say Superman suck is because they use D moves....

just do anti-sune + sune

R' U' R U' R U2 R2 U R' U R U2 R'

but i would suggest that you learn 2LOLL and 2LPLL.

I love my Superman with Ds.
Eventually I won't have to use it though ;)

lol youll still use Ds Every OLL is a CMLL lol just look at what case it is for.
