G perm recognition?

Im on my way to learn full pll, and the G's have been a real pain for me, I cant identify them on first sight (recongize A, solve corners, recognize U, solve edges), and as all algorithms have y rotations im not acustomed to identify the case since i solve with the 1x2 block on DFL corner with the edge either on my front or left, so, what is the way I should recognize the case and start off the G perm algotrithm? any group of algorithms that use the same orientation for the 1x2 block or the 'headlights'?

and, could you help me out with some N(both) and V algs since mine are just slow and uncomfortable to solve. for any reference Im averaging 28-30 secs (2LOLL).
 
Well, I use the headlights on left recognition trick. Learning to recognize them from any two adjacent sides takes some work though. Stachu and Sarah Strong both have good 2 side recognition PLL guides. I'd get the links for you but I'm too lazy at the moment (but it's easily searchable).

In the guide you have Gb listed as the RF block, and Gd listed as BR block. It is the other way around, to be consistent with the algs you wrote (wiki style a/b/c/d)

Ah, whoops! Hopefully spencer didn't get confused by that, haha! I also noticed another error, I mentioned the block/headlights sharing a corner (and I typed block where I should have typed headlights) with the T perm. Fixed now :D:D
 
Well then sometimes you'd have to auf the block to the front or left side of the cube, then need a y or y2 to be able to see the FR sticker, then you may need to AUF/rotate again to perform the alg from your preferred angle, then you may need to auf again. That seems like to much effort too simply recognize G perm.

Place headlights on left
- if block is visible in front GOGOGO Ga
- if block is not visible, glance at the right side
- if the right side has no blocks GOGOGO Gc
- otherwise the block is clearly visible in FR or BR, GOGOGO Gb/d

EDIT: Honestly in the process of placing the headlights on left I can usually determine which G perm it is, that whole flowchart is only really necessary at the beginning. Idk but I feel like I just know which G perm it is without actually knowing any 2-side recognition for it. If in between the headlights is an opposite color edge then you know its either Gb/d. If the edge between the headlights is adjacent color then you know it's Ga/c

I recognize them by the position of the blocks that are solved. Here is a video:

what do you do about the mirror cases? wouldn't you need an extra U perm if the edges were wrong? or does this never happen...

Ah I was mistaken. I thought there were 4 unique ways to do the edge cycle after the 2 ways to do corner cycle but with respect to the 2x2x1 block there are only 2 ways after all
 
I do it with two sides only, and they are actually really easy to recog if you know what to look for. Execpt for like 1 angle that is but ya Check out my sig for how i do it or visit sarah website which is linked in the description of the vid. I totally reccoment 2 side pll recog for everyone it has dramatically decreased my recog time and it makes solving a little more interesting.
