Any tips for inspection of 3x3x3 guys/girls? I completely fail at inspection, I don't really know how to do the inspection... All I do is plan the cross, I can't see where pairs will be after cross!

Just seeing th cross during inspection is fine. You can look for the first pair while you're solving the cross.

Keep in mind you don't have to solve all cross pieces before you start solving pair(s).

Look for the cross, already built pairs, or 1-move pairs.
If all you could see is a cross, then do it by muscle memory while looking ahead for pairs.
That takes a while to be used to, but you could benefit from it.
For me, I look for easy cross, or easy pair, or easy block, then decide which method I'll use (CFOP or Roux). But most of the time I use Roux, so it doesn't matter after all.

Most of the time I just plan out the cross, but whenever possible I would track one corner that would end up in the U layer, or even better, its corresponding pair.

Inspection difficulty changes depending on the scramble. You don't have to be be able to find an xcross everytime.

I just plan out the first 3 edges on cross and when I insert the last edge for the cross, I immediately track the first pair I see.



EDIT : I average 22 - 26 seconds with this method too.

Sure, inspection helps a good deal, but what really gets your time down is look-ahead.

It also varies from method to method. In CFOP, what statue said holds very true. But in methods like ZZ, inspection is key. If you don't find all your misoriented pieces, the solve won't move too quickly. Just try to find a healthy balance between the two.

Sometimes when I'm really lazy I only plan like 2 or 3 cross pieces, and just lookahead for the rest and solve them when I'm done with what I inspected.

I don't recommend that approach, though. Once you can plan out your whole cross, try to use that time to look ahead to the first pair. If you can solve one or two pieces too, that's great; otherwise just try to find a pair while you do the cross, so you can start on F2L as soon as possible.

My 16.10 avg50 was with not using more than 5 seconds of inspection for a single solve. Half the time I did not have the cross entirely planned out.

I avg. around 19-20. For inspection I just look for the cross. Like qq, I sometimes get lazy and only plan 3/4 of it. I agree with statue, planning the cross is dandy and all, but what matters is that you know what moves to do ahead of time instead of pausing and trying to look for it. So while you're doing the cross, remember what moves you have to do to make the cross and as you're making it, look for the first f2l pair. Practice doing the cross blindfolded may help you.
