Hello there,
I solved my first 3x3x3 about 28 years ago. Back then I was happy if I finished in under 5 minutes. I don't have my first cube anymore, but the 3x3x3 I use is probably 10 years old. I have continued to play with it but never practised seriously for speed. Over time I got it down to under 2 minutes.
I'm also interested in these puzzles from a theoretical point of view. I graduated in Mathematics, with a specialization in permutation groups, their applications, and their algorithmic treatment. Solving the cubes is a real-life application of these concepts. While I don't have any experience with fewest moves solutions I'd like to learn more about this particular problem.
I have traveled quite a bit, having lived in five countries on four continents. Currently my home base is in Italy. My other interests include sports (running, cycling), games (chess, poker), game programming (I've written a chess program that plays at expert level - much better than me), and foreign languages.
I'm looking forward to finding out whether an old fart (39) can still compete with you young whippersnappers
Currently I'm unlearning my old method and trying to learn 2LOLL.
