Ok, so I started cubing a few years ago, and last year I got down to sub-20 using Fridrich. I switched methods to corners first in September, and I just beat my average 10 of 12 solves record. My new average is 19.50 seconds and I just wanted to wonder... who here STILL thinks that Corners first has very little potential? I mean, I've got really slow hands, and I only know about a third of the algorithms. I know a lot of people agree that Corners first has at least SOME potential, but I've heard people say that Fridrich is the only method that is worth using. My current average with Fridrich is over 30 seconds, and I've just gone about 2 and a half months without concentrating on improving my Fridrich solves. I just wanted to see what people's thoughts were. I'm just using this as an example of what some people act like. Who here thinks it's potentially usefull to look at old methods that people have "abandoned" or try to develop new methods? or do you think that people should just ALL use Fridrich?

If people didn't use other methods, it's be pretty boring. :P I say stick with this method, but don't just abandon your Fridrich. Petrus seems interesting to me, and after getting Sub-30 with Fridrich and mastering all the PLL's and OLL's, I'm gonna try and learn in it. Then I'll practice both, and know 2 methods...

So basically, pick what method suits you best, wether it the more interesting style, or the faster method to you.

learn all the algs please :D who knows, you might beat waterman himself with practise. persevere on, learn algs everyday, sooner or later you'll know full waterman. hoping to see you sub 16 maybe? :D anyway, are you already using CLL?

I use Petrus for One handed solves. I used to average 40 seconds (that was when I had a cube suitable for One-handed)

in my opinion CF algs are hard to execute fast compared to Fridrich LL algs because of the usage of the E slice and the constant cube rotations

I probably do no more than 2 cube rotations in a solve. If it is a good solve, I will use 1. Also, I don't do a lot of E-slice moves. I do M slice moves, but those can be very fast (with this method it uses mostly moves in the URM set).

about a month ago, I had a 14.16 second solve with Waterman

in my average, I got a 16.XX solve (don't have the time list with me)

I love you.

Josef Jelinek translated the old Waterman-Krammer booklets to Java applets on his site:

basic: http://rubikscube.info/waterman/index.php
advanced: http://rubikscube.info/lastsix2look.php
original booklet (nice, ±1983): http://rubikscube.info/waterman/booklet.pdf

Watch out: very advanced!

Note1 that's almost all M U moves and very few E moves!
Note2: At WC back in 1982 15 out of 19 competitors used corners first!
Note3 if you've ever seen Erik Akkersdijk doing M U moves you'll understand this method got potential!
