I need to decide on a method...

I'm learning both petrus and fridrich right now.....I suck and I'm just stating my opinion.

I find the fridrich much easier to actually learn because you pretty much do the same things most of the time. I think it is the fastest though. Only bad thing is to learn all those algs.

If you want to be fast with petrus, you need to be somewhat color neutral to have fast recogniton to make the 2x2x3 block fast which I believe is the most important step. Petrus was the first method I learned...never even learned the beginner's method. After that, I wathced ErikJ's videos which is like the best petrus tutorial I found.

My PB is with petrus when I used my main 3colors for the 2x2x3 block but other than that, I avg pretty much the same with both methods. Personally I like petrus better because to me, its just more fun then solving with fridrich.
And everybody uses fridrich........

One question I have for people who use petrus......
Do you just have to keep practicing to get color neutral or is there some kind of method you can do to get better with it??
Pretty much. Although personally I am only Yellow white color neutral because the only difference between Y/W and full CN is one expansion direction for 2x2x3, and I don't find that worth my time, nor do I think I could make good use of 3 freakin expansion directions.

in defense of fridrich:
fridrich F2L is easy to segue into from keyhole
last time i checked, the world record holder uses fridrich.
fridrich is the most common method, meaning that people who can help you are everywhere.

Do we really want everyone to use the same method for eternity just since it seems like the best option now?

Lord Voldemort: This is what I say all the time. We can't make something better than fridrich if we just keep using fridrich. Nobody seems to care though. Everyone just says "World records are set with fridrich". Meh.

If you practice making the block in as few moves as possible, you'll be forced into color neutrality eventually, and it should stick. I used to use Petrus and was color neutral with it, as it was my first method too, but I lost it when I switched to Fridrich. Don't think I'll ever be able to get sub-40 solves with it again unless I work at it, but I'm not that quick anyway.

When you're inspecting the cube, why would you look for a specific corner all of the time? I always looked for ones that could be joined with edges quickly.

And btw aren't there 4 colors on a 2x2x3 block? >_>

Why would you have to use color neutrality with Petrus? Erik Johnson uses white/yellow with petrus and averages sub-14....

I dont think you should limit youself to only one....the more you know the better :) but i would say try and learn the basis of all of them and then use the one that best fits your Mentality....i have just discovered the basis of ZZ....i think its a great method....im learning it now if you want to learn you can inbox me XD
