Hi, I am learning to do OLL. I have a question about it though. Why are there many lists of algs underneath each picture? Can someone explain why?
I would like to know what each alg means. Why are there multiple per picture?
Thanks,

Probably different ways of executing them?
Which site are you using?

Each algorithm can solve the case that it's listed under. I'll use a PLL as an example. My H-Perm for 3x3 speed is the M U one however for bigger cubes and OH since M turns are a pain the at neck I use R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U' R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U

Nice username :D

On topic: Yes, as others have said, if multiple algs are listed, you can choose between them. Generally, people go through every / most algs that they can find for any given case, and try to find the one that suits them the best. It might be time-consuming, but not only is it really useful later on (really useful, because relearning algs sucks), but it can also be quite fun.

Because there's is simply no way you'll ever get sub-20 if you don't know all of them

Ok, that was a joke of course.

There are several reasons why you want to know (or be able to choose between) different algorithms:

- Some are better for one handed
- Some cubers know lots of different algs that start from different angles, which saves time
- Some cubers prefer different kind of moves (for example, some love slice move, some don't). Some like RUF algs, some prefer RUD.
- For FMC you want to use different algs then for speed, probably.
- Some algorithms are easier to memorise, then others. If you don't care about top speed, but still want to be efficient, you can try to find easier algs with a logical structure.
- Some algorithms are harder to execute on some puzzles. For the touch cube for example, I would use algs that have a more logical structure, so I won't get lost in the alg.
- Some people know alternative algs for OLL's to influence the corner permutation, so they can end with U, H and Z perms more often.
- Some people just like to show off with the number of algs they know

Thanks for the kind comments about my username. I signed on only recently and i was surprised that the name wasn't taken!
