I have terminology question

I have been stumped as to the use of “X” when applied to algorithms and

also the use of parenthesis in groups of letters.

I am also looking for a way to correct for adjacent pair corrections on the
4X4 cube when finishing.

I am thinking this one will do it but haven’t tried it yet –
(R’ U R U) r2 U2 r2 U2 u2 r2 u2 U’ R’ U R

Hope for best on some answers, rick

I just added Macky to my favorites. Durn I hope that is when the two adjacents are on the front and right side respectively. Thanks. Also I am in to learning and teaching. I hope my learning theory will help many students and adults. It will free us from Gardner's harmful model of fixed intelligences. The very old version is on my home site at http://learningtheory.homestead.com/Theory.html The newer version will go to all on request. I will try to create my profile for all to use. I think I use the cube solve in public to speak on how we all need help and support to achieve. Thanks again for the help. rick

Macky left out another meaning for "x". Usually it indicates "turn the entire cube in the direction of R". Unfortunately it is sometimes ambiguously used in place of "*", meaning "multiply by" or "repeat by". For example, ((UR)*15)*7) = (UR)*105 will return the cube back to its original position. If you see a number greater than 2 after the "x" then interpret it as "*". If you see "x2" then the meaning may be ambiguous (unless you know the author's style).
