ok, I got my friend to start cubing with me a while ago. well, he is not that much into the whole speed thing.. but he is really smart at this.
he actually learned to solve the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 on his own "inventing" the reduction method. and he taught me..
this is one thing.

the other day we were practicing together on the 2x2x2 and I mixed the cube up really good and gave it to him. after like 2 sec he said: hey! look at this and start solving. after 6 turns! 6!! turns, the cube is done. and he figured it out. :) that was really lucky. A real ? 1st layer + LL SKIP!!

another day he did a full LL skip on the 3x3x3. this is like 1/1200 right?

lucky bastard!! - a pr of 1.5 sec on 2x2x2 and that lucky case on 3x3x3
amazing!

I have had several OLL and PLL skips (once every 50-100 solve or so) and its actually a quite unsatisfying feeling! but something like that actually makes me believe some of those "HEY I solved that once by accident"s you get so much :D

Has anyone else ever gotten a 2x2x2 LL skip? My very first solve on one was, when I was doing 1 layer in different ways because I hadn't gotten home yet and didn't know how to solve it.

I know they're much more possible than a 3x3x3 LL Skip, but still how rare are they?

Coming up with the reduction method for big cubes on one's own isn't that impressive. Anyone who knows how to solve a 3x3 should be able to do it intuitively. You have a complex puzzle, you reduce it to a less complex puzzle you already know how to solve: the 3x3. The rest is learning two parity algs.

I think a proper title for this thread would be "I got a lucky friend."

i believe a ll skip is more like 1/15000ish.

I've only ever had 4 PLL skips on a 3x3x3 and 2 OLL skips...
some LL skips on the 2x2x2 but they don't reduce my time since I use ortega.

I dunno, but my PB for 2x2x2 is 8.55 seconds because I got a double layer skip (I use simple Ortega) o_O;

i've had 4 last layer skips on the 3x3, 2 that were just completely lucky (both when i was doing OH actually), and 2 that were 'forced' in that i was messing around doing intuitive ZB, and happened to set the cube up into one of the simple f2ll cases, and got a PLL skip too.
i got an LL skip for 2x2 in competition :D shame the first layer took about 3.8s!
ive forced LL skips on 2x2 too (i love R'FRF') :).
