[Help Thread] Hoya Discussion

I am currently averaging about 50 seconds on 4x4 with hoya and am stuck on how to progress my current splits are centers + cross: 25 Edges: 10-15 depending on the case
3x3: 15-20

You could probably shave some time off of your L8E. Are you doing 3-2-3? Lookahead is pretty useful here. Admittedly, my Lookahead is pretty weak. One practice technique is I try to do all of L8E without ever having to look at the E layer (unless the next piece I need is stuck there somewhere). That leaves my eyes free to wander around the rest of the cube, hunting.

I've been trying to use pretty much the same strategy during cross. The things that would usually slow me down is I'd see a cross piece and have to stop and think "Is this the Left piece of the Right piece? Do I have to preserve anything to get it where it needs to go?" To take the most advantage of lookahead, answers to those questions should be pretty automatic. Taking advantage of free slots is also very useful. All your Cross work needn't take place in the U layer.

3x3 stage could also be a bit faster since cross is already solved by then. So y'know. Practice.

I don't know how much help that really was. Kinda basic. And I only average about 54-56 seconds. So you're already ahead of me.

I'm averaging about 1:25 at the moment. If my 3x3 stage is about 22 secs, what should my splits be for a sub 1 solve? Also, what's the fastest I could realistically get with a 20 sec 3x3 stage?

10:30:20

Just did an average of 5 centres and it was 11 seconds.

I don't think my centres are good and I average about 1 min.

I added last 2 centres and cross together. Last 2 centres is very short with a large variance.

Also parity makes a huge difference obviously. I'm about 8 secs slower with double parity.

Thanks for the video Chree.

I'm officially sub 2 now =D
Even with 2 pops and a DNF in the average.
I'll do my best to make an example solve video in the next week or so.

I've started solving opposite cross edges 1st on 5x5 in most of my solves. It makes me track the pieces instead of looking for easy cases which may come up and more freedom with the 2nd cross edge.

I still insert pairs as I go if they build themselves and if I spot the third I'll insert it as soon as I get a good opportunity to though.

Any thoughts on dual color neutrality on Hoya? I have started doing it recently, and the times on both white and yellow cross are fairly close. In my 46.22 ao5 video a few were yellow cross too.
