[Help Thread] Hoya Discussion

I do all the standard last 2 tredges algs then correct the cross at the end (I know what they all are now so it barely slows me down).

So you do the paritys after OLL and PLL?

On 5x5, he's talking strictly about Last 2 Edges, L2E cases. And those algs can be found here: http://meep.cubing.net/l2e.html

This is done before 3x3 stage... or in the case of Hoya (since the cross is already made), before F2L. However, many of the algs will disturb the cross. Like FD might wind up on FU. So you have to stop and restore the cross before proceeding with F2L. But it's all very predictiable and easy to deal with.

How many of you get parity when solving with Hoya? I get almost on every solve an OLL parity and if I dont get oll parity, then PLL is there. :(

That's just bad luck, man. As far as I know, Hoya doesn't cause or prevent parity any more often than Redux or Yau. I don't know the probabilities of getting different combos of parity, but I think you are more like to get some form of parity than none at all.

If anyone could provide the actual probabilities of getting parity, that would be awesome.

1/2 chance of getting OLL or PLL parity.
So 1/4 solves have neither.
1/2 have 1.
1/4 have both.

(This is about Hoya5)
Does anyone have a link to a help site for solving the last eight edges after making the cross and completing the centres WITHOUT using Freeslice?
I'm getting eh times at the moment, and think if I learn a better edge building technique then I'll be better at it.
I currently can get sub2 solves using Redux maybe 1/5 solves, and average about 2:10-2:15.
If I could average sub2 with Hoya, I'd be thrilled :D

I try to look at how fast Jong Ho is compared to me for the cross+centres and last 8 edge pairing + 3x3x3. I've looked at some of his sub 1 videos.

Cross+centres: It seems that he takes around 32 or 33 seconds for the cross and centres stage. I tend to take around 30 seconds for a decent solve I think.

L8E: He seems to take around maybe 16-17 seconds for L8E and 10 seconds for 3x3x3. I think that his edge pairing times are good and perhaps I should try to adapt to his way of solving edges.

I'll film myself soon so that there are more solves to compare.

EDIT: However: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSwbWYafGlY
Pedro takes 34 seconds for cross+centres (not that good imo) but then 23 seconds for L8E and 3x3x3 which is crazy...
