How tough did you find the Megaminx?

So, my Megaminx arrived from DX a few hours ago, and I solved it in what must have been just an hour the first time, intuitively too. It's like a beefier version of the 3x3. I had to figure out two new algs for corner and edge cycles, but other than that, it was really simple :| How did you find it?

What methods do people use to do this puzzle fast?

I thought it was a litttle confusing when I picked it up for the first, but when I finally got my own, I was also able to solve it the first night. I was able to do the whole thing intuitively, but the last layer was done in the order of beginners method, just done a little differently.

After I got mine, I kind of left it in a shelf for a few months. I didn't want to mess it up. Then, I got around to trying to solve it and i actually solved it by myself. That was because I got lucky and the edges were already oriented (PLL) so i tried to solve it again. I got stuck on PLL but the other parts were all really easy.

Mine was easy but at first it was hard to find the edge pieces, the LL was the hardest. I've solved it a few times. I got the Chinaminx so it frustrating just to use. I did take off all the corner bumps thought and clipped the centerpieces. I download Monkeydude1313's video on the LL but I have really sat down to learn the algorithms.

Everything up to PLL is simple.
I got lucky with T and J perms my first time when I was trying to figure out what effect they would have on the minx, so I don't know if that really counts.

Same thing, just I never held one before I got one.

I think its really easy, just boring and it takes really long to solve. Maybe speedsolving it is hard, but just solving it with the beginner method is easy.

Me too. I've never held one or even seen one in person. I just ordered one from eBay so hopefully it'll arrive soon.

It goes without say for any cube/puzzle I have, except Rubik's brand 3x3 and 4x4 and square1, my teacher a couple years ago had one, I got my first today, still haven't solved it.

Megaminx is really easy, if you know the beginner's method for 3x3. Don't really know any other way to solve it.
The easiest puzzle I have ever solved is the pyraminx, I use my own algorithms for each case after the first side.

I found the megaminx incredibly easy. My first solve was aout 30-45 minutes since the first time I touched it. For LL I oriented edges using F R U R' U' F' and then oriented corners using sune. Then intuitive corner permutation. All of that was really easy. Took me a few minutes to figure out and intuitive edge permutation though.

What's sad is that I needed a video to teach me. If I knew it would be EXACTLY the same as a 3x3, I could've learned it myself. (Why isn't could've a word?)

I took about 2 hours when I first got mine. I was very surprised at how small it was compared to what I was expecting.

I used a horribly inefficient layer by layer method the first few times, and used some pretty simple 3x3x3 algs to do the last layer. Once Grant Tregay pointed me in the right direction as far as the non-last layer portion, I really started to enjoy the megaminx.

Before I got my first megaminx (Christmas 07) I heard it was just like solving a 3x3, so star then F3L etc. When it arrived I found it all easy until the last layer. That's when I went to Erik's older site and learnt some new algorithms. Especially for CP. EO, CO, and EP and all mostly 3x3 algorithms, so they're pretty easy once you get the hand of it.

When I got my first megaminx, I quickly realized that it was *not* like solving a 3^3, not at all. My 3^3 CF method was of no help, I had to figure out something else. It took me almost two hours to solve it with a LBL-like method and the only three LL algs I managed to figure out (FRUR'U'F and sune for edges, and (sexy move)^3 for corners).
