How much does your cube affect 4x4x4 times?

I hear that the cube you use can have a huge impact on 5x5x5 solves, with a bad cube increasing your times by minutes in some cases.

But how important is it to 4x4x4? Since there are less pieces, I doubt there would be such a HUGE difference in times, but I'm sure there is still some amount of difference.

I think it would be interesting if people could post their AVG of 5 times for various kinds of 4x4x4 cubes.

I can tell you this. From Rubiks to Eastsheen, I dropped from 4 minutes, to 3.
From eastsheen to QJ, I dropped from 3 minutes, to 2:30.
From Qj to YJ, I dropped from 2:30 to 2:00.

So, yes the cube you use matters, but what also matters is how much lookahead, and how many good algorithms you have, and as always, how much you practice.

your time drops are skewed because you have obviously improved in other ways during that time.

For me, the cube makes a HUGE difference in my times. Only on the best cubes can I average under 50, while with crappy cubes (regardless of brand) take me up to around 55.

Dropped from 4-5 minutes with new Rubik's to sub-3 with tiled QJ. Now I use mini QJ because I have small hands. Haven't really improved with newer cubes in last three months, but retooled Rubik's are absolute sh*t.

with rubik = 2+min very loose and lockup every turn
ES = 2min same lockup and no corner cut
tile QJ= 1:30 is too big for me
mini QJ and YJ about same me ~1:00

I think the actual cube you use doesn't matter too much (unless its a shi*ty retooled rubiks) until you get REALLY fast (sub-55). Nakajima averaged around 50s (I think) and he used an ES.
