How many hours would it take to break in a storebought?

my storebought rubik break after about 3 weeks....
i'm just too lazy to take the fast track (sanding etc)
i just lube it with waxco (silicone spray)
after 3 weeks what i get is pretty close to DIY.....
and now after 4 months it just gave up on me......
the yellow center piece has broke..... leaving just the core.....

before that the green one pops the center cap..... :D
how to break in??

in my case... i just turn each layer back and forth..... repeat..... i suggest that you do it b4 you lube it.... bcoz there's more friction.....
and check the rubik for any defect... my friends got one.... in between the layers there are some "extra" plastic that supposed to be trimmed... so it's very HARD to turn in some direction.....

pestvics method is key to life

1. NO SAND!!!!!
2.Jig-a-loo IS FAIL USE CRC

LUBRICATE THE CUBE AND JUST USE IT
CLEAN CUBE DUST OUT WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL EVRY SO OFTEN AND YOU WILL BE FINE

Wow. Both of you sound like the new generation cubers.

Anywho.
1) Pestvic's method shortens the lifespan of a storebought
2) Sand is alright, but shortens the lifespan of a storebought
3) CRC, jig-a-loo, BLEH! It's all up to personal preference. I prefer jig-a-loo, but CRC gets the job done as well. Reason, the smell of jig-a-loo isn't as bad as the smell of CRC in my opinion.

and lastly

4) the amount of love you put into a storebought will make it better.

+1,but jig-a-loo ftw for me.:D

I just want there to be quality information in these posts, not just...well, superstition.

And, might I remind you...
Solving the cube shortens the lifespan of a storebought.

I used the full Thrawst mod om my friend's maic cube and now it glides, though with an alarming tendency to explode due to lack of rivets screws or any other attachment other than a pop on/off center

I understand, but I get this more from personal experience.

I initially used sand, which was great in my opinion. I washed it out and started using the cube again but there some that I couldn't find which ground the area where the center and core met making the hole where rivet went through bigger and bigger making the cube unusabe after a while.

I've tried pestvic's method next. It was good, but the rivets became too loose about 3 weeks later. I could no longer use it without popping during a RUR' (or similar) trigger.
