First solved the cube when I was 8. I averaged sub45 when I was almost 16. So, 8 years.

Not too long, I'm guessing around 3 weeks. The real 'challenge' was getting sub-30 :p

I am not sub 45 yet. I've been learning fridrich for 2 months, and my average is at about 50 seconds.
Though, my times have been improving alot lately so I expect to be sub 45 soon(I'm also getting my zhanchi in a few days :D)
My best single NL is 37.xx seconds though.

For all those that say they got sub 45 in under 3 weeks, I say they're purely bsing.
It took me around 12 weeks for sub 40, so I'd say around 12 weeks.

30 Years!

I first solved a cube in ~1981/2 but very much a beginner method with about a 20 look last layer and still used that method until December last year when my wife made a huge mistake of buying me a Rubik's cube for Christmas for nostalgic reasons (She wishes she hadn't now :) ).

But to give it a more realistic timeline from learning Fridrich which I started on 2nd Jan this year and I hit sub 45 somewhere between 3rd Feb and 11th Feb according to my results in Race to Sub 30 thread.

Soo ... 30 years or 4 weeks, depending on which way you want to look at it! :)

A year. As I recall, it was the last three to two weeks of my Junior year in High School.

It took me around 12 weeks for sub 40, so I'd say around 12 weeks.

Just because some people improve faster than you doesn't mean it's bs at all. Why some people seem to think everyone improves at the same speed they do is beyond me.

I miss counted :p
I forgot some people practiced 20hours a day.

Are you really serious? Sub-45 took me around 3-4 weeks (I don't know exactly because I didn't really care), and back then I doubt I practiced for even an hour each day. People improve at different rates; get used to it.
