Hi!

I just started cubing about a week ago on the 2x2. Im wondering how long did it take you to get sub 10 averages? Are there any tips on making the first layer since its the one that I lose most of my time on?

Thanks for reading, it means a lot to me :)

I think it depends on the skill level you have going into 2x2 in reference to a 10 second barrier.
10 seconds is a really high barrier which is a pretty easy milestone to reach.

If an experienced 3x3 cuber uses COLL+layer or Ortega, they could easily get to 5-6 within an hour or so.

It took me like 4000-5000 solves until I averaged 10 seconds, it will surely take you much less than that (2x2 was the first cube I learned to solve, I used a very bad cube for the first 2000 solves, and I'm old and too clumsy).

I don't know how to build a layer, learn Ortega, building a face is easier. http://www.cyotheking.com/ortega/

edit: it was 3000 solves until first sub-10 ao12

A few days, but I already averaged about 30 on 3x3 so it wasn't too hard.

I recommend you learn the Ortega method if you haven't already necause it's very few algprithms, but helps your times a lot. I don't ever practice 2x2, but if you want to improve the forst layer utilize inspection as much as possible. Take the full 15 seconds if that's what you need to find a good first layer.

I learned Ortega when I was around 25 seconds for 3x3. I was sub 10 the next day and then sub 8 the next week. But I find it hard to make it further without learning CLL and EG.

Once I started doing 2x2, I'm pretty sure I was just sub-10 naturally. I was around ~21 on 3x3 at the time (as shown by my official results, my first comp I got a ~5 2x2 average and a ~22 3x3 average). I'm almost positive I was using LBL at the time as well, although 2x2 was one of the later events I picked up at the time, so I had some experience with other events.

My first 2x2 was a LingPo, and I averaged like 7 seconds when I first started, and I averaged like 25 on 3x3. As long as you're half decent on 3x3, getting sub 10 on 2x2 is a breeze.

Lel, all the skrubs who didn't do 2x2 when they first started 3x3 :p jk
I was avging like 1:10 on 3x3 and 20 on 2x2 at one point so yeah. I think I became sub10 on 2x2 at around 45 on 3x3 sooo yeah

I just got a Lingpo about a week ago and averaged sub-10 instantly. If you find it hard to break that barrier, I recommend you learn Ortega since it has many algs similar to the 3x3 with CFOP
