How does a speedcube die on you?

I've heard a lot of cubers say this but I don't get it.

well, this might not always be the case, but sometimes someone uses a cube so much it gets worn out. the lube "dries out," or the plastic of the cube just seems to wear out.

This used to happen constantly with my aolong, they just got so dirty and slow that I wanted a new aolong until I got the tabling and the valk

Basically it gets over used and doesn't have the same feel any more, lube wears out and just gets nasty on the inside with dust and stuff

Eventually the plastic wears down to the point that performance is lost, though generally swapping centers adn hardware can renew a worn out cube
