There are many 'G Perms' and it's hard to recognize, but when I see other people do it in videos, they seem to go by it in a snap. Does anybody have any idea as to how to recognize G perms or something

I remember when I started, it was hard, but with practice it becomes easy. What I look for is two matching colors side by side on the side of the U slice, then look to find two corners on another side of the U slice with the same colors showing on the same side. From there, you can recognize it. It is hard to describe. I think there was a post about this when I was learning, I will try finding it.

They are really easy to recognize once you learn the "trick" to it. First, look for two corners with the same color on the side, then AUF (adjust the U face) so that these corners are on the left. From here, look for where the 1x2 block is. It will either be at UF/UFR, UR/URF, UR/URB, or UB/URB.

Here's an example to clarify. Do this to a solved cube:

R2 u' R U' R U R' u R2 B U' B'

Note that there are two corners with the same color on the F face. So, do U so that they are on the left. Now, look for the 1x2 block. Here it is UR/URF. So from here we know which G Perm it is (my favorite one :) )

R U R' y' R2 u' R U' R' U R' u R2 (U')

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, but I just have a few more questions. When you're done adjusting the U face and u look for the 1x2 block, it depends on where the 1x2 block is in order to determine which alg. you use right?

Also, I did the whole cube up to the point where I have to use another G-perm, but I don't know which G-perm it is.. (I looked at the Permutation algs. that it gives in this forum) and the patterns doesn't match. Do you think you can tell me where the 1x2 block should be located in the four cases and which algs. I should use?? (This is probably easier to understand... and I'll be able to figure out what you're trying to say after looking at it for a bit)
