I've just been learning a couple of algorithms and I'm wondering: What's the easiest way to learn them? Right now, I'm doing the first few moves and learning that, then learn like the next 3 or 4 moves after that.

I'd like to hear what you all have to say.

I perform the algorithm move by move and look what it does to the F2L pairs. I memorize how to recognize them. Then I slowly perform the algorithm a few times, looking at the sheet as little as I can. I keep doing that until I can perform it without looking at the sheet at all. When I've gotten the algorithm in my fingers, I try to perform it quickly and without looking. When that's done, I review after 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 5 hours and the next day. (Pimsleur method of teaching)

I look at a sheet that the alg is written on. And then perform it once. And I perform it again without the sheet. If I do the alg correctly, I would do it again 5 more times unaided. If any of five attempts does not lead to a correctly performed alg, I go back to the sheet and read it off the sheet. And then do it five times again unaided. And the next day, I'd to the same alg 5 times unaided to ensure it is commited to memory. If not, back to the sheet and start from scratch.

Perform it 10 times with sheet while reading out loud. Then put the sheet away and perform 30 times without looking at the sheet, and the algorithm is memorized. I'm really good at memorizing algorithms, if only I was that good at memorizing what my girlfriend asked me to do...

HOW TO LEARN AN ALGORITHM

Step 1: Perform it with sheet 10 times.
Step 2: Do it without the sheet.
Step 3: Do it with the sheet again.
Step 4: Do it your eyes closed.
Step 5: Do solves until you use the algorithm a few times.

edit: for those of you that lack common sence, the "sheet" has the algorithm that you need to learn written on it.

i generally do the algorithm 3-4 times with looking at the algorithm
than i look at the first 3 moves look at the cube and perform those 3 moves and go back and forth between the cube and looking at the algorithm until the algorithm is finished 3-4 times
than i do the algorithm 10-15 times with out looking at it

I look at the algorithm, don't look at the cube, and get it into my muscle memory, then I look at what it does to be able to avoid mistakes, then it is there, at least until SAFS hits me about 2 months later....

Well i normally do the algorithm before school once or twice. Then its in my brain and i practice a few times after school. I dont know many though. 15/21 PLLs yay nearly done.

lol it took me two days to learn full PLL...

anyway basicaly the most effective way ive found is to group them into finger tricks.

heres an example:

(RUR'U')(R'FRF') thats a two trigger OLL algorithm that you should memorize after two or three times performing it.
