How do you break in a v-5 white core black cubies hybrid?

A couple of weeks, or maybe months, ago, my friend NotKevin made a white core/ black cubies v-5 hybrid, and being a nice friend, i decided to break it in for him.
The cube started out really stiff, after a few days of constant turning, it has gotten to the smoot/looseness of a NEW white v-cube 5, but it seems that the cube will only be broken in that far, is that true?
If it can be broken in furthermore, is lube recommended before breaking in or after?
Any help will be appreciated

break it apart, lube it, put it back together, and then break it in

thats what i did to get my denver open pwning 5x5
