See, you get rumours like this, but then when you go check official results, even with someone who improved as quickly as Seung Hyuk Nahm, he averaged sub 12 seconds by the end of 2013, then apart from one outlier 7.98 average that was skewed by a counting 6, it's clear that he averaged closer to 9 seconds. It's only toward the beginning of 2016 that he started getting convincing sub 8 averages, so if you look at the data, it just doesn't back up this rumour. It looks like it took him 2 years to get from sub 12 to sub 8.

Long story, people tend to distort time in thier memories, and rumours get subconsciously exaggerated. Most people don't improve nearly as fast as they think (there are admittedly exceptions though)
I said "like 8" not sub 8 so if he averaged closer to 8.9 than my statement would be correct even if that wasnt true I think he was sub 10 in less than 2 years

Even I get demotivated a bit when i compare my improvement pace with those of others bet then i realize that I should just concentrate on MYSELF.

Its been almost 4 yrs since I solve my first cube and I avg like low-high 11

Feliks claims to have got to sub10 in 18 months, I average 14 after about 5 years but you have it easy, I went nearly two years with Rubik's

After 10 years I'm sub 20, But i do have hand issues and could never be that fast. But if accounted for the issues i probably be sub 10

I didn't read all the posts above, but I think a lot of it is not only how often you practice, but what you are practicing. If you really struggle with Lookahead (like me), then working on that would be a good place to start. Also, the method you use; that's also fairly important. But mostly practice with what you are struggling, and then once you master that, move on the next thing that needs work.

I first solved a 3x3 in July 2015.
My first timed solve was 25 minutes
Next day, 3 minutes
and that week I got sub 2
Now I average around 11-12 seconds
I did improve pretty quickly in the beginning but now I have slowed down a bit.

My first timed solve was around 2:30 after a few untimed solves. Within a couple days I was sub 1:30 and a few days after that I hit my first sub 1 time. It really just depends on how much you cube IMO- I was on a school trip in China at the time and had tons of time to solve on the train every day.
