How do I visualize insertions in my head?

So I've been doing a lot of FMC lately and I keep DNFing because I have a hard time finding insertions that will cancel and also have a had time with figuring out what moves are in the commutator. How do I fix these issues? I want this to be solved because I DNFEd a scramble that had 26 moves into 3E 3C after needing to spend more than the 30 minutes I had on insertions!

(Subtle hint: try 3BLD with 3-style, you just solve the whole cube with commutators)
