Hello! I'm currently a high school student from Georgia, USA and I started speed cubing about a month or so ago. I use CFOP and my pb for 3x3 so far is 35 seconds. As for 2x2, I use layer by layer and my pb (lucky) is 3 seconds and my pb unlucky is 7 seconds. I can solve a 4x4, a 5x5, a skewb, a super floppy cube (3x3x1), and a megaminx as well, but I'm not really that good at speed solving them. Though I am currently trying to get faster at the megaminx, looking up algorithms and such, even though I only got it 2 days ago. Although it is a major one, cubing isn't my only hobby. I also play the trombone, play video games, and play rugby. Thank you for anyone who took the time to read my introduction, and I'm very exited to get involved in the cubing community!

Welcome! For 2x2, you may want to learn Ortega. It doesn't need many algs and it can be very fast. Although LBL is good too if you want to eventually learn CLL. For 3x3, here's a thread that explains other methods. It's quite long, but a summary: Roux is great for two-handed solving, ZZ is really good for one-handed and 2H but is hard to learn, CFOP is good if you like both (but other methods are better for each and there are loads of algorithms), and Petrus sucks. Don't just limit yourself to CFOP!

Well, that's surprisingly a question I don't know the answer to. A few years ago, I bought a really bad cheap speed cube off of amazon that I never really messed with until now. It's very blocky. I am currently using that one, but I was thinking of getting a Dayan LunHui. The reason I don't want a Weilong or a Zanchi is because I can't solve that fast and I need a more controllable cube.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was actually looking to learn Ortega, but I never got around to it because I'm trying to focus on 3x3 stuff. Once I get a little more comfortable with my 3x3 times, I will definitely learn different methods for the 2x2.

Yeah, that's understandable. I was cubing for a couple of months before I did anything other than 3x3.

You could get a ShengShou Aurora. They're very cheap, quiet and fast, but not too fast. They're great cubes for anyone averaging 30+. I use one as my main cube.
