Hi, so I'm trying to learn Winter Variation now and I've learnt that for this, the top layer edges need to oriented already to use WV. Since I'm using CFOP, I have no clue how the edges are oriented before F2L. There's also no way I'm learning Petrus or Roux, after learning 70+ Friedrich algs.

Therefore, I'd like to know how CFOP users use WV.

Use edge control during F2L to orient as many edges as possible, and use WV if they happen to get oriented. It's not a technique you can use in every solve, only when the situation is right.

Dont forget Petrus!
There's also no way I'm learning Petrus

Most people who know WV try to influence the edge orientation while solving F2L to get all edges oriented.
Maybe sometimes, but not all the time: too much extra time spent orienting edges and then having the extra WV step to recognise is going to take up too much time, especially when there's no guarantee you'll even get a WV case. Methods like ZZ/Petrus are much more useful for people who know WV, because you know the edges are going to be oriented.

That's why I said 'try'.

IMO, People should just WV while ignoring EO and solve the 1LLL from there. (<200 cases)
