I started playing with Rubik's Cube 2 days ago and can get to F2L using beginners way.. but didnt like method so I'm trying Petrus Method

I can do Step 1 now (make a 2x2x2 block) but am STRUGGLING with Step 2 (expand it to 2x2x3)

I need help understanding how to line up the 2nd corner piece with one of the edges and then adding the 2nd edge. The pieces usually dont line up properly and I keep going in circles with the 3 sides that I can move.

Here is the method for Step 2: http://www.lar5.com/cube/fas2.html

Any help in explaining how to "see" the solution would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks!
Roger

Well I think most of all practice is very important. The more often you do this step, the more easily you will recognize the pieces and see a logical way of lining them up. I swear, I found it way harder to solve, for instance, the cross 3-4 months ago than I do now. I only find it easier because I specifically practiced the cross, and looked into how other people do it etc. Just a hint.

You should, as a beginner, first solve an edgepiece next to the block. Then by not moving the edge out of its layer you must solve a cornerpiece next to the block and the edge. Then you just have to place the last edge correctly oriented to the same layer as the corner-edge pair you've been working on. Then combine them by first moving the original CE pair out of the layer, again not destroying it, then move the last edge piece in the position where it can be combined with the CE pair by inversing the move you used to move the CE pair out of the layer. This will form a 2x2x1 block you can combine with the 2x2x2 block to form a 3x2x2 block. You probably wont understand a thing from my explanations, but I'll still post this so you can try. The solutions on the petrus site are basically the same thing, just highly oprimized.

oveehoo- that was great help actually.. i had been locating the corner piece first and then trying move the edge piece to it... for some reason its easier to find the edge piece first and move the corner piece to it

now i'm tryin to learn/figure out the orienting for the 2nd edge piece to the CE

Cheers!
