help me solve the cube

my cube is now in the 1st state from the above post , now exactly what will happen if i do R U R' ? when i do the botton layer cross has another white :/

If you performed it correctly, the corner should be moved to the bottom layer and oriented correctly. Nothing else on the bottom (D) layer should change.

But, seriously, just play around and try things. You should be able to figure out how to form the bottom layer intuitively after not too long, and you'll be better for it.

well i played around with it and now i am able to solve the first layer , but sometimes only the upper white layer is complete but U has not the same colors i.e red red red blue blue blue etc , so what to do now to make this correct all the time?

It sounds like you may be placing corners in the incorrect slot. Notice that in the above picture, the corner has a green sticker and a red sticker. We then place it between the green and red centres and perform the appropriate algorithm to move the corner into the correct position.

This means that if your corner had a white sticker, an orange sticker and a blue sticker, we would have to place it between the orange and blue centres before inserting it.

In the image above, you can see the cube on the left has all of the corner pieces inserted, in the correct position. However, the cube on the right has the corners inserted, but in the incorrect positions.

Does this help? I think this is what you were asking for, but your post was slightly unclear.

yes i think i am placing the corner's wrong , i am solving it with the white side on the top , so does that matters in the pictures you posted?and about the corner i have a question that
if a white has red and green , then the red should match with the center red somehow and green should match center green diagonally?

With White on top:
If the corner piece is white-red- green and you put it in between the red and green cross pieces with white sticker on top you CANNOT put in in wrong.

I really suggest playing with your cube more and post less...
Figuring out things on your own is so much more rewarding.

Figuring out the 2nd and especially 3r layer all by yourself is not for many people but the 1st is really perfectly doable with intuition only.

Edit: judging from the images in your first post you have found Jasmine's Lee's tutorial.
I found this a very well written tutorial and the method sets you up OK if you want to get into more advanced methods later.

One thing you may want to do is to not wait too long before switching from fsolving the first two layers on top to solving them on the bottom.

But first get comfortable with your first layer before looking into the 2nd!

The first picture has the cross on the bottom. Cubenovice is correct, if you keep playing with your cube and trying to understand how it moves, everything will eventually make sense.

As for your question, don't worry too much if the red sticker lines up with the red centre and the green sticker with the green centre before it is inserted. As long as the corner is between the correct two centres and you perform the correct alg to insert it, the red and green stickers will look after themselves.

thanks alot jiggy and cubenovice i am able to solve the first layer now perfectly.
A question:the method with which i am learning in which you make the cross first and so on do you people really use it?cause jiggy i see your PB time is 17.77 , do you use your own algorithm ?

I us CFOP also referred to as Fridrich and with this method you actually solve the first two layers in one step.

C Cross
F First two layers (called F2L)
O Orient last layer (get the U face colors facing up)
P Permute laste layer (put the U
last layer cubies in the right position)

During the F2L you use actualy use the algs that Jiggy posted but you preceed them with some more moves so you place the corner and its corresponding 2nd layer edge at the same time.

Regarding speedsolving: the methods from the two sites where you showed the images from are not used. But Jasmine's page is very good stepping stone for CFOP and she links to pages with more info.

And then there are so much more methods and sub-methods that you can use to get sub 20:
Petrus
Roux
MGLS
ZZ-Top ;-)
ZB
Corners first
VHF2L

Don't worry about these for now
Stick with a beginners layer by layer method for now and get more comfortable with the cube.
Then when you can solve it without help; browse the forum for interesting sites, methods and tutorials.

No, this method is just the beginner's method. Once you're comfortable with the beginner's method, if you feel you want to continue with cubing you can learn one of the faster methods.

There's really a lot of information, so for now I'll just give you a quick summary:

The most popular speedsolving method is called Fridrich or CFOP. It involves solving the cross, then solving the first two layers (F2L) efficiently and intuitively, then orientating the last layer (OLL) with just one algorithm (there are 57 possible cases) and then permuting the last layer (PLL) pieces in one algorithm (21 possible cases). You can break this down into sub sets to make it easier to learn, but don't worry about that for now.

Another very popular speedsolving method is called Petrus. Petrus uses block building to solve the first two layers. Many Petrus users then go on to solve the last layer in a fashion similar to Fridrich, but with fewer orientation cases to learn.

The final popular speedsolving method is called Roux. Roux is another block building method. It's approach is quite different from both Petrus and Fridrich, but if you're interested you can look into the steps Roux uses to solve the cube at a later date.

There are other methods, but those a the three predominant speedsolving methods.

For now, I suggest you stick with the layer by layer beginner's method. I highly recommend that you use the video tutorial over the PDFs you are currently using. The creator is a very well know speedsolver who is generally considered to make the best tutorials on a number of cubing topics. His method also makes for a very easy transition into the Fridrich method if you do decide to continue cubing and choose to use CFOP.

Keep asking questions if you need help, but always try and figure things out for yourself. Knowledge earned always sticks with you longer than knowledge given and you'll be far more proud of yourself at the end. Stick with it! =)

EDIT: Hah, cubenovice was a whole 13mins faster than me at typing a reply! =p

Congratulations! Are you stuck on a particular part at the moment, or looking for a last layer method?

The page I linked you to earlier (and below) has a fairly nice last layer method:
(This will also be covered in the video I linked you to.)

http://badmephisto.com/begsoln/

(Start at step four. Also, make sure you have your cube with the last layer on top)

Alternately, I always thought Petrus has quite a nice last layer method for beginners :

http://lar5.com/cube/fas5.html

I'm not sure if you always solve with a white cross or if you just solve the easiest face, but in that Petrus walk through he uses red as the top layer. Don't let that put you off, it's just a colour! =)
Additionally, if you do use the Petrus last layer, you will need to orientate the last layer edges first (the Petrus method deals with this at an earlier stage), but you can use the method in the first link for that step.

All in all, I think the easiest way to do this would be to watch the video tutorial I linked you to a few posts back, but both of these are fine methods.

EDIT: Just for your ease, here's a link to the video again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=609nhVzg-5Q

The last layer starts at 14:31 but you don't have to watch the entire video to get to that point: If you look in the description, you will see a link to step 4.

Post here if you need any more help!

How much do you want to learn for the last layer?

I had not seen badmephisto's beginner page before but it looks quite nice.
For step four I reccommend using the F RUR'U' F and f RUR'U' f algs since they are basically the same fast alg.

You may consider switching the order of badmephisto's 5 and 6 because then you can use an easier corner swap alg (see jasmin's page).

For step 5 you can even reduce further, in the case with two yellow corners you can actually position the same as in the case with zero corners.
The worst that can happen is that you have to do the alg an extra time.

Haha, er, I don't actually have skype/msn or anything like that, but I'm sure Cubenovice and I would be happy to take this to personal message if other people feel this is cluttering up the message board.

I'm actually a little bit surprised that it's just us two left posting!

Sorry, my post wasn't phrased very well. With Skype, you can use video so wouldn't it be easier to explain and show him how to solve the cube?
