Hi I just read on the WCA FAQ that it is possible for people to organise comps in their hometown/city. After this whole covid problem is gone, I would love to participate in a comp and perhaps help organise it. I read that you have to contact a delegate first and have found 5 in the UK. If anybody living in the Uk could help me to do this I would really appreciate it.

I would recommend making a post on the WCA Forum in the UK section.

I can't help with organising, but would love to go to a comp if it is within two hours of London!

I think I have found an appropriate venue for the competition and wonder if anybody else agrees with me. It is cheap, roomy and close to hotels (I think). Does anybody else have any better recommendations?

Yeah that looks cool.

I think we could hire this out for perhaps 15 hours over a period of 2 days, so the base fee would not have to be more than £10.
All UK competitions are £20 for registration now, and we would probably need to book from 8AM-6PM both days at least but the UKCA delegates will deal with all the financing, there are other costs too.

Hi -,

Thanks for reaching out! It's great that you're looking to organise a competition!

Right now, we have no plans in place to start organising any competitions with the current restrictions in the UK. Once the restrictions are lifted and things start getting back to normal, we're looking at enlisting as much help as possible to bounce back from 2020.

I had a look at the venue you linked and it would be a decent venue for a competition outside of a major city. The problem we've had previously is that London competitions are extremely popular, and as such we try our hardest to hold 150+ competitor competitions around London.

We have been known to allow some smaller ones on the outskirts of London, such as Hertfordshire Spring this year before it was cancelled. That was because we had a group of 4 new organisers who wanted one in their local area, so instead of allowing a larger limit and enlisting the help of one or two experienced organisers, we allowed them to go ahead with a smaller limit.

In your case, it's really hard to give you advice because no one knows yet when we're going to be returning and what the UK is going to look like once we do. I will endeavour to discuss this with the other delegates once we're in a position to start considering restarting competitions.

But keep up the good work, it's reassuring to see that there are still people wanting to get back to competing and organising comps again!

Thanks,
Sam!

No competition here for a while then.

Find a possible venue and contact a local delegate. The delegate will walk you through the entire process. Maybe read through the organiser guidelines on the WCA website too.

That would probably be better if it's available, you could probably have 100 competitors there
Keep in mind that there is generally 1.5 spectators per competitor

Edit: oops nvm just read your post
