Hi, I have a problem. kind of... i know 2 look oll and 2 look pll, and i cant get under 30 sec avg! my best time was 22 seconds, i know that i need to work alot on my f2l ,cuz im cube rotating alot and im havin a lot of pauses in f2l section . also, i have another problem with my cube, i have Fangshi ShuangRen and its pretty bad, i mean turning isnt that smooth at all, or maybe its just because i didnt have any lube like maru, calvins lubix ... all i did were sprayed with some silicone. so my question is : what yall recommend on practicing f2l and is it worth to learn all oll's and pll's?

Thank you,
Justin.

Most of the time once someone has ~10 second memo and uses 3-style well, the main thing stopping them from being sub-30 is a lack of fluidity. You need to eliminate your pauses through think ahead, even pauses you don't know you have, or pauses that are so short that you don't count them as pauses. watch the fastest people and see how they transition from one alg to another with no hesitation. Practice executing slowly without pauses, and work your way up to executing faster without pauses. Good luck!

thank you for very useful tip!

Lolololol.

On topic:
What are your splits? I can't tell you what to work on if I don't know which is bad.

I loled so hard. Anyway, like everyone is saying: PLL, remove f2l pauses, and practice.

PLL and a more optimal f2l will probably help the most (besides practice). Look ahead isn't actually that much of an issue when trying to get sub 30. I recommend learning full PLL asap. This should help out a lot.

Put your splits into the spreadsheet in the thread linked in my sig, that should tell you which area is your biggest problem (although Im betting its f2l), and then if you read the thread there is just about every bit of sensible advice out there collected in one place.

you have to hit A(X3) LT right right R and it'll unlock the below 30 second solve cheat. if you have a ps3 youre screwed.

how many times are kids going to bring this up.

Hi Justin K,

Be patient. Try not to focus on speed. Focus should be on technique. Try to solve the cube slowly, without a timer. Count the number of moves you need to solve the cube. Try to keep the movecount low. Try finding your own F2L shortcuts. If you think you know F2L, look again. There are volumes of shortcuts and tricks that can help you to be more efficient. If you force the speed and neglect your technique, you might get sub30 but you will devellop bad habits which will make further improvement more difficult (sub 20?). If you focus on technique, the speed will come naturally and gradually. Most of the things I wrote still apply to my situation, and I average around 12.

And yes, it's worth it to learn PLL and OLL. Start with PLL, since there are fewer PLL's. Two look OLL can still be very fast, if you do FRUR'U'F' (and inverse) quickly.

I was in the same situation as the OP, someone here mentioned focusing on look ahead and slowing down. I thought about minimizing the time between moves and this eventually changed my style to a slower yet smoother style of solving. Instead of trying to work on speed when it comes to F2L, focus on being smooth by looking ahead and execute the 2LLL as efficiently as possible. In addition, as you stated, try to learn how to insert your F2L pairs without cube rotations.

Of course, I have gotten slower because I do not have much to ....P R A C T I C E

Simply put, practice smart, focus on the parts of your solve such as your cross building and transition into F2L. Of course, for any cases of F2L that take you several moves to insert, research the various F2L algorithms and use them to speed up inefficient inserts. Lastly, if your OLL/PLL algorithms are slow in execution, research the database to find algorithms which are easier for you to execute.

Good luck!

I know everyone hates to hear this, but it takes time. It took me around probably half a year to get sub 30, and another half to get sub-20. Just practice, keep learning new stuff, and go to competitions if they're nearby. You can learn a lot from those.

SLOWTURN SLOWTURN SLOWtURN! Use a metronome or a turn per second. That helps you look ahead :P

Once you get used to some look ahead, you can be a baws* Slow turning can also help with intutive f2l?

You can easily sub 20 with your current algs
You're just not working enough on smooth and consistent turning
