I joined this forum mainly to ask one question. But I know I'll be here a while.
I'm Phillip from CA. I use a stickerless Dayan Zanchi, and is the only speedcube I have. My record is 58 seconds, I know a simplified version of 2 look OLL & PLL, and am currently learning full F2L and PLL. I'm also working on finger tricks as well.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! Keep up your good work :)

Welcome! I joined the forum for the same reason, and look at me now! Enjoy your stay!

Welcome!

What you should do around that speed is focus primarily on getting algorithms down to a super fast level. This helps significantly with corner cutting, turning speed and accuracy. The main one I would focus on is the T-perm (R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F') which you probably already know. Once you can do this algorithm in about say 5> seconds, you should find your turning speed increasing.

The second goal (perhaps more importantly) is 'look ahead' during the F2L stage. This means that you, unconsciously, follow your next pair around the cube as you insert the one you are currently doing. However, if you cannot insert a pair that you have seen by looking away and then inserting (which is another great thing to practice) then look ahead becomes impossible. Also, a reasonably average solve of yours on video to look at would be, if possible, fantastic, as it would give us information to base our advice on your specific cubing style.

Also, I wouldn't quite bother with full PLL just yet. I get 20> on a regular basis, and am still missing E-Perm, two G-Perms and both N-Perms. I recommend the same, although of course what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you, and you can always learn them if you wish. Certain, very quick OLL algorithms should be learnt as well. Cases 2, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 33, 37, 44, 45, 47, 48 and 51 all come to mind, although again do what works for you.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome! If you want to work on full PLL, I say go ahead (as opposed to what notfeliks said above). I think the best is to learn whatever you want when you feel motivated. For me and maybe for you, cubing is a fun hobby first and foremost. When I started learning Fridrich I went right into full PLL because I was motivated to learn the algorithms. Right now I am not motivated to learn big sets of algorithms. If I hadn't learned them before, I think it would be harder to make myself learn it now. And before, I had absolutely no interest in blind solving. I thought it was boring, in fact. Suddenly, I picked up motivation to learn it and now I've been doing it a couple weeks.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I actually haven't learned the T-perm, but it seems like everybody says to learn it first for whatever reason, so I will learn it now.
I feel motivated to learn the PLLs right now for whatever reason. I think I like PLL more than the other stages, and I hate OLL.
I just got some semi-accurate timing, and my record is now 46.62 seconds and my average of 5 right now is 1:04.56. I don't use F2L when I go as fast as I can, because I feel like its slower, even if its not. I've learned the A-perms, E perm, U perms, as well as Z(half, I know the second half intuitively, not memorized) and H. I'm having a hard time doing F2L intuitively.

This is the footage that turned out the best. I didn't like anything really about this solve, other than it felt a bit fast. It was a little bit too long, so the first part of the cross is gone.

I apologize for the orientation and probalby poor quality.

Interesting solve. I watched the video. Looks like you do cross on left. I found your sexy move interesting (the way you do RUR'U' or something like that). You may need to work on some better fingertricks. Also, for the H perm, it's usually much faster to do M' rather than M. Try pulling the BD sticker to the front so M slice goes in the opposite direction. You can try middle or ring finger of either hand... whichever is more comfortable for you. Personally, I use my right hand ring then middle for M2.

If you want to be fast, definitely do F2L. Eventually it will be a lot faster than LBL.

Edit: About fingertricks... learn to do U' with left index finger and the double flick U2 with index then middle fingers. Very good things to learn.

It takes me longer. I think I need some more practice with it. I don't do the cross on left, at least not often. When I do the noob method(LBL you call it), I insert with the sexy move from the left, because I can't do the sexy move the way I do it on the top very well.
I find it really really hard to do much F2L intuitively unless its an easy case.
Practice is key. Thanks!
