Hi guys!

First of all, i'm from Belgium, English is not my native language, so pardon me making spelling or grammar mistakes...

A couple of years ago, I got a Rubik's cube for Christmas, but it ended up in the closet rather soon. But a couple of months ago, I gave it another shot and after a while I finally found a LBL solution: I didn't start off with the cross though, while in completing the last layer, I did first make the cross (with edges correctly oriented) and then finally I oriented and permuted the corners at the same time. I have no idea if this (obv beginner's?) method has a name? :D

In the meantime, I bought me some new cubes: void, mirror, sphere, pyramorphix, ... A 2x2 is on the way, although I already solved it some times on my 4x4. I'm not able to solve the 4x4 though (it's a Rubik's and turns like crap :().

I don't usually time myself, but I know i've been able to solve my 3x3 under 2 minutes, not very impressive huh. So the next step is trying to get faster, learning CFOP (or first: cross, F2L, 2LOLL and 2LPLL).

I'm also thinking of buying a new cube, but I'm not sure which? A question that's been asked many times before, I know... I'm doubting between the F-II, A-V and the ghosthand 2 perhaps. Is it true that the F-II deteriorates rather fast?
I have no idea if I should sand my rubik's or lube it (haven't done that before)? I don't wan to ruin it (it being my first cube) and I think I'll buy a new cube anyway!

Any more question? Shoot. :)

Meph.

EDIT in order to avoid confusion?
I now know there's a well known cuber called badmephisto, but Mephisto has been my nickname for more than 10 years...
At the time of registration (some days ago), I didn't even heard of badmephisto tbh. :o

Hi Mephisto!
I could say that you use 4-lll for the last layer, but if you do not use a cross for the bottom face then, I really couldn't know. How DO you build your first two layers?

Strikingly similar nickname to another pretty well known cuber :@. This could get confusing to some people. W/e, Welcome.
Jup, but Mephisto has been my nickname for more than 10 years...

Ah well, thanks anyway.

Hi Mephisto!

I do the first layer quite intuitively actually, solving edges and corners randomly. (first layer as top face btw)

To solve the second layer, I do the following:
let' say white is on top and I want to solve the green/orange edge, which is in the LL with orange pointing downwards.
I place it under the green center (so the edge matches the center) and turn it away from orange, then I do the following sequence:
F D' F' R F' R' F
If green would've been pointing downwards, you'd need the mirror version.

I have no idea if this is a well known algorithm. :o

Welcome :)

Haha. There is now a "Mephisto" and he has a dark side, "badmephisto". lolololol

A lanlan 2x2, i've read it's very good?
I've also ordered a 2layer pyramid (shapeshifting 2x2, right?) :D

and thanks for the welcomes! ^_^

^ thanks!

An update perhaps:
I've received the pyramorphix from lightake, it's quite big but turns ok, fun puzzle.
I expect my LL 2x2 to arrive around Wednesday or so.

I will order an SE F-II soon. I reckon it will be just fine as a first speedcube, prolly later on I will test some others (A-V for example, or some cheapos like the ghosthand2 or YJ).

Furthermore, yesterday I tried the 4x4 (didn't really put much effort into it before). Surprisingly, I was able to solve it! (by myself that is, without looking for a solution on youtube/google) Fix centers, pair up edges and solve like a 3x3. I did some reading afterwards and this seems to be the most popular method. I guess I was lucky to not have parity... :D

^^ lol

yay badmephisto's good side welcome!

not sure how much stuff on this forum you've read, so I'll just warn you myself that when you first start to learn the intuitive Fridrich F2L, until you get used to it your solving time will actually get a little slower for a little while, this is completely normal so don't get discouraged :)

and your english is actually quite good :)

Thanks for the tip, speed isn't a priority now anyway (and will not be until I have my F-II and have learned a great deal of the algorithms).

My 2x2 is waiting for me at home, woot... :D
