How's it going my fellow cubers!? I would call you my fellow speed solvers, but, frankly, I wouldn't consider myself worthy of such a title. Yet. Nonetheless, I'd like to say "hello" to all of you here on this wonderful forum. My name is Robert. My username is 420 because I like that number. ;)

I'm currently 16 years old. I solved my first cube at the age of 11 when some friends taught me how on the bus rides home after school. A week after I begun learning, I completed my first solve, probably in around 7-10 minutes. The method resembled the "pogobat" tutorial, which I continue to use today (and which haunts me as I have an awfully difficult time trying to learn 2-look OLL and PLL). Back then, I was probably doing solves at about 2:30. It was only a temporary thing to impress people, and, before I knew it, my cube was hidden somewhere in a closet. Three years later, I came back to my cube only to end up the exact same way as before; impressing a few people and then putting my cube away again. Two years later, however, I'm back again, and, this time, I plan on staying in the world of cubing for good!

What made me get back? Well, after a bit of a self-realization into the fact that I had no true hobby occupying me, I decided that cubing was something I could do to interest me and that I could try to get really good at. As such, here I am.

I currently use a crappy Rubik's 3x3, but have already ordered a Dayan Guhong V2. I figured that a Rubik's was only hindering my progress, and, although some people are opposed to the belief that a beginner should get a speedcube so early on, I've decided to take that leap of faith nonetheless. I've also ordered a ShengShou 2x2 and SS 4x4, just for fun. I've already owned a Rubik's 4x4, but it broke about 2 hours after I got it thanks to my aggressive turning habits. :o

As somebody who likes puzzles, mathematics, putting things together, and testing my brain in general, I believe that starting up a collection of puzzles and competing is something I will really enjoy, as I will the path to sub-20 solves (though I won't get ahead of myself)! So here I am, diving into the world of twisty puzzles and multi-coloured plastic cubes.

As a last addition to my introduction post, I would say that my goal right now is to successfully try to get around a 30-second average solve before February 2014 (as that is probably when the first competition of the year will happen here in Canada). I will also try to learn other disciplines, and try to eventually challenge myself with things such as blind solves. For now, I only envy those who can pull off speedy solves.

Once again, thanks all for having me on these forums, and hopefully I will be able to make somewhat of a contribution to the cubing community! If you have any questions, please, please, please ask them! I love talking about myself. :)

Ahaha, thank you. :) Just updated the profile. Located just outside Toronto. Can't wait to get into cubing for real. Perhaps I'll see you around in the competition community sometime in the future? BTW, your signature made me laugh. :P

Toronto... cool. Well, I just went to my first comp in May this year. It's possible we'll meet in comp in the future though I'm not sure how likely it will be that I will go to Toronto for a competition unless I happen to be there for whatever reason. I don't even know when I'll get to compete again. Which part of my sig made you laugh?

Maybe if there's a competition in Ottawa this coming year, then you'll be there? Either way, we'll see how things turn out. I'm excited to meet new people at these comps.

And the UWR for cubing during labour made me laugh. Can't see it becoming an official event any time soon, though! :)

I think there will be a competition in Ottawa (NCR) about the same time each year for the foreseeable future. Not sure if I would be making it in the coming year though because of my young family (I'm expecting twins any day now, hence the "+2" in my sig). And actually I'm hoping to break my UWR for cubing during labour... hoping also I can get some good video footage for it this time. We shall see!

Made my day, Ninja Storm! Made my day! Thanks for having me. ;)

Indeed, it brought a tear to my eye.

Relevant songs are always a great introduction.
