I'm a brand new to cubing.

I went on vacation the day after xmas and I had a 16 hour drive ahead of me so I picked up a cube at walmart and I just played with it on and off, and memorized the method it showed in the little booklet.

I can now solve it in about 2:30 and occasionally under 2 minutes.

I was wondering if you guys could give any tips on what to do now?

I guess since I'm new I should probably stick with the method I'm already doing?

I dunno.

Thanks. :)

Hi there. I'm also new to cubing so it's nice to know someone else is in the same boat! As I'm new I can't really offer any advice but maybe it would be useful for the other to know what method you are using for them to give you better advice?

Anyway, welcome to the forum. So far I've had a very friendly and warm reception here, I'm sure you'll have the same :)

And I am using the method the little booklet that comes with the walmart cubes.

You first solve the bottom cross, then the bottom corners, then the edges pieces of the middle layer, then the top cross, then you place the edges of the top cross, then place the top corners, then orientate the top corners.

Haha, I didn't know what to call it. :(

Welcome to the site! (Though I'm somewhat new here too.)

That's a good tutorial for beginners.

Once you can get to 1:30 on average, switch to an advance method.
Most people use Fridrich and Petrus.

Also, feel free to just look around and ask questions, this site is really good. I went from 1:30 average from when I joined this site to about 30 seconds average now (in about a month).

However, also make sure you use the search function and put threads in the right section, this should go in member introductions.

Lubricate your cube with Jig-a-loo or CRC Heavy Duty Silicon Spray. This will drop your times a lot.

No. I did not lube until I was sub 30. I had my first sub-18.6 average with a cube that's pretty much out of lube.

For a beginner, it decreases time by a lot. I average about 22 seconds with an SD of about 1.8, and when I use a non-lubed cube, I get inconsistent times around 28 seconds.
