Hello everyone, I joined Speedsolving a couple of minutes ago, so it's my first post here. I'm from Austria (so English is not my mother tongue and I hope that I'm not making too many mistakes now and in the future here), where I'm also born and live. I'm 18 years old, and learned to solve the 3x3 cube before ... I don't exactly know, about 2 years and a half I think. Because I really liked solving this puzzle I started speedcubing and also discovered other bigger and/or more difficult puzzles that I am speedsolving now. The reason I'm here should be obvious: I want to get more in touch with the international speedcubing community (until now I was just registered in some german forums) and want to improve. In my surrounding there are (unfortunately) not many people, that are speedsolving the rubiks cube, but I know at least a few people that are able to solve the puzzle (I'm now counting an average above 1 minute not to speedsolving, especially because these people I know hardly ever measure their times). It's also a bit difficult for me to visit speedcubing events, because most of them are pretty far away, so I just visited 2 competitions so far and because it's such a special thing for me (because it happens so rarely) I mostly fail because of nervousness (fortunately not all the time). My times so far are:

3x3: 8,90 - 12,13 (avg of 5)
4x4: 57,77 - 1:09,75 (avg of 5)
5x5: 1:56,89 - 2:07,72 (avg of 5)
6x6: 3:52,22 - 4:17,84 (mean of 3)
7x7: 5:34,99 - 6:01,86 (mean of 3)
Megaminx: 2:27,80
My official times (these are my inofficial PBs) could be viewed in my WCA Profile, I think it should be linked somewhere in my profile here.
I am able to solve some other cubes or some other competitive forms (for example blindsolving, onehanded, or 2x2), but I just practice too rarely, so they're not worth mentioning for me (but you can ask for them of course, if you're interested in).

Apart from speedcubing, I a big music freak. That's also the reason for my username here (yeah, I was unimaginable creative there), because I really like heavy metal. I'm listening to quite a lot of bands, so I can't name all, but just to let you know in which direction it goes, there are a few I really like: Moonspell, Therion, Skyfire, Windir, In Mourning, Dark Tranquillity, Code, Chthonic, Blind Guardian, Vintersorg, ...
Furthermore I play the piano, but not very often at the moment, lost the interest somehow, but I'm sure, that this will change soon (because that's what always happened so far :D). In about 3 three weeks I make my final exams, and then I'm officially out of school (the written part is already done and my grades were at least so good, that I don't need to worry about not passing the final test anymore (because I chose every subject I do in my written exams also for my spoken exams (I don't know, if you can say that this way xD)). My plans for the future are to study Maths (or Physics, but at the moment I prefer Maths), but before I have to work about a year (instead of going to the " Austrian Armed Forces" (got that word via translator xD), because we need to do some sort of civil service).

Yeah, I think that should do in terms of length.^^
I hope I will have a nice time here (and I hope the text isn't too confusing, I didn't really know where to start and where to end).

Hey, welcome to the forum! Your English is perfectly fine. It's good that you joined this place, especially with those times. I'm also a musician and I love metal. Although, I'm more into stuff like Rings Of Saturn and The Faceless. Though I'm big fanboy of Animals As Leaders. Really, I like nearly all music. How long have you been playing piano?

Sorry about that. I just like talking about music.

Thanks to all of you for the nice replies (also concerning my English). :)
Welcome dude. What is the method you're using for the 3x3?
I use CFOP (Fridrich Method) and it's (besides a strange form of layer by layer) the only way I can solve the cube.

Shame on me, I don't know these bands (apart from Animals As Leaders, but I've only heard one or two songs yet). :(
I play the piano for 8 years now, but the first year, I learned on a keyboard and one year in between I made a pause, where I didn't play. This year is kind of similar to my situation now, but I hope that I'll find motivation soon.
And it's no problem (at least for me xD), because I can talk for hours about music.^^

Welcome! I love music too, but at the other end of the spectrum (classical).
Classical music is my second favourite music genre (if you take metal as "only" one, because there are many subgenres), heard that before I discovered metal, and still I really enjoy it from time to time. I especially like Romanticism (Rachmaninoff).

That is very true. I guess appreciation of many outisde genres can help you appreciate metal as a whole. Personally, my favorite genre is definitely Jazz/Fusion, although my favorite bands reflect otherwise. My top 5 would most likely be Radiohead, Björk, Animals as Leaders, Sigur Rós, and Snarky Puppy. My writing style shows my love of jazz, though.

I'm kinda in the same situation as you when it comes to piano. I've been at it for 15 years now and I haven't written anything new in the past year and a half. On the bright side, I've instead spent that time writing stuff for guitar.

Lots of stuff

First of all, your English is quite good. :)

The bands you mentioned are almost all ones that I've heard about but don't listen to often. Although I don't listen to black metal as often as I used to, I still have some favorites. Immortal and Emperor of course, plus some others like Crimson Moonlight, Sanctifica, Lengsel, and others. Listen to this song: http://unvibes.bandcamp.com/track/ghostly-circle
