I can solve the 3x3 with and average of 1 minute with the beginners method. I solve the 2x2 in 25 seconds using my own method (I stole algorithms from the beginners method). I have a 4x4 and a 5x5 coming in the mail; I just don't know what to do next: do I use a new method for the 3x3, get a sub 45 with beginners method, or start solving away on the 4x4 and 5x5 when they come? I'm new to cubing. I started a week ago. I am throwing my problematic burdens on the experts, you guys/girls. What do I do?

Do some research and learn whatever method among CFOP, Petrus, ZZ and Roux appeals to you the most. Petrus is usually considered slightly slower than the other three, but it's fun. Play around with each method and choose your favorite. You'll be sub-40 in no time with any of them.

CFOP: Learn this and add 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL.
ZZ: Look here and add the second look of 2-look OLL along with 2-look PLL.
Roux: start here
Petrus: www.lar5.com/cube/

Look in the wiki for any terms you don't know (for example if you don't know what 2-look OLL and PLL are).

Good luck!

Cool! So, should I master one of those methods before attempting to learn how to solve the 4x4 and 5x5?

4x4 is easy. Once you understand centers and pairing (all intuitive), it's just a 3x3 with a couple of parity algorithms.
5x5 is something similar... more or less.

If I were you, I would get started on learning a faster method for 3x3 while you're waiting for your bigger cubes to arrive in the mail. When they arrive, I would play with them some and solve each at least once so I know how it goes. Then I'd get down to working on the speed on 3x3. If I wanted a break from the speed greed, I would solve the 4x4 and 5x5 occasionally for the fun of it. The faster you are, the more solves you can do in the same amount of time.

chiming in good sir, I would suggest trying different methods, the more algs that you know I believe the better it can make you at solving cubes, even blind solving.
pick a method and go with it find one that you like and is fun solving, I started with beginner method, then petrus, then waterman, and now roux is my main method now, I can also do 3x3 bld solving. that's all I have good luck sir

more algs != better at solving
But I agree that you should try lots of methods, not for the algs but because you have to wrap your mind around the cube in different ways and a better understanding of the cube will help you in any method. Just because barely anyone uses a method doesn't mean it's not fun/good/fast. Good luck!
