Hello! :D

I'm 3LEVAS3, LEVAS, or just plain L.

I first picked up a cube around March/April 2014 and since then I've been hooked. Speedcubing is rather fascinating and I've been trying to get more into it but sometimes school does not give me the time to practice. Now that it's summer though I look forward to practising BLD and OH. I'm so excited though to look at other people's perspectives on solving techniques.

To be honest I'm not very fast at solving 3x3x3 and I average around 40-45 seconds. Currently I'm attempting to memorise full OLL and I have 20 of them down so far :) I do like solving other puzzles such as the 2x2x2, 4x4x4, 5x5x5, the megaminx and occasionally the pyraminx. I recently picked up a Square-1 and it's driving me nuts. I suppose that's how some people feel when they pick up a basic 3x3x3.

Beyond cubing I enjoy archery, piano, cello, reading and playing Minecraft. I also list eating and sleeping as a hobby xD.

My current main is the MoYu Weilong V2. What's yours?

Thanks!

L

Hi!

Welcome to the forums! I'm really new here myself but hopefully it's still a good welcome :)
I play some piano too and love music so that's interesting. My advice for regular 3x3 would be to focus mostly on full PLL first, it's much less algorithms and also usually more helpful, but that's just me. And I use a WeiLong as well!
I hope to learn blindfold as well this summer so good luck with that.

Happy cubing!

Hi Zuki!

Good luck with BLD over summer. I heard its easy... At least that's what 'pro' cubes say. "Right."

anyway, thank you for the advise! Although that's sort of controversial in my opinion because a lot of people have mixed opinions on that. Some say leaning full OLL is better. Some say F2L is the way to go. And then others say PLL is obviously a top priority.

Have fun cubing!

Cheers x

P.S I really love math too. xD

Welcome! While it may seem controversial on which will help the most, F2L will help the most hands down. Check out the CFOP substep compeition on here, you can search it. Your F2L and cross are optimally around 62 percent of your solves. Full OLL at your speed will only bring down your times by 2 seconds max, same with full PLL. However, really fast F2L can get you down to sub 20. My recomemdation would be to get down to around 35 seconds, then learn full PLL if you haven't already. Full PLL will help you more than full OLL, because it is less than half the cases to recognize and algorithms to memorize. Once you get down to sub 30 or lower, then you should learn the rest of your OLLs. Don't forget the ones you already know though, or else that will be time wasted. I hope that didn't sound too pusby, but you will thank me later.

Hey L. I love archery too (and piano and violin). No Minecraft though. And I can't really list sleeping and eating as a hobby anymore since I am a busy mother of 5 and only do those things out of necessity and I can't really get enough sleep. Well anyway, welcome to the forums!

First off, hello and welcome! Currently I use a 55mm Zhanchi as my main.

Secondly, it's not really controversial at all, learning full OLL won't help you that much at this point. Like Rocky said the one thing that will improve your solves is F2L. All you need to go from being a 45 sec solver to a sub-20 solver is good F2L. There are plenty of cubers who average 12-13 seconds who still use 2-look OLL primarily. I'm not trying to discourage you but if you really want to improve you should be focusing on F2L and maybe learning full PLL simultaneously.

Full OLL won't help you that much, so you might as well stick with 2-look. Try learning F2L and PLL first, but I think that F2L will help more.

Hey there, L!

Death Note anyone?

don't forget to look into other speedcubing methods, you might miss something!

good luck improving

Simon

Welcome! . I hope that didn't sound too pusby, but you will thank me later.

No! Not at all! Thank you so much for your advise! I'm still new in the cubing world... and I'm glad it's summer so I can actually learn F2L, OLL, PLL etc. It was just hard for me at the end of the school year to try and learn that. Finals, ya know? xD
Again, thank you so much!

I'm beginning to learn Roux. I think though Corners First is my least favourite method after beginners...

Thanks.

Happy cubing, cheers x

Isn't Death Note an anime thing? lol.

I don't know much about it. However, a friend of mine at choir is obsessed with it. I just chose 'L' because it's shorter than LEVAS.
Yeah, if you get bored or something you should look up an english version of it on YouTube. You don't have to like anime to get into it. I don't really like anime, but the storyline is awesome.

I learned full PLL right at the start and full OLL not too long after so I would say not to mind people who say not to learn it. It's true that F2L makes a bigger difference in your solve time, but it takes longer to master. I'm glad I learned all the PLL/OLL algs so I don't have to bother doing it now when I probably won't be as motivated to learn it. And yeah, if there are many sub-15 solvers who still use 2LOLL, it might be because learning new algs and using them in solves will slow you down at first and they don't want to bother doing that. Just my opinion.

OT, saw your sig... are you a Christian?

OT, saw your sig... are you a Christian?

I think for that my friend I may give you a long reply... maybe not :P I am Christian, but I'm not Catholic.

I am not Catholic, I'm am Episcopalian. Is there a difference? Quite.

Christian usually refers to Roman Catholic which I am not.

What is the difference between Roman Catholicism and being an Episcopalian? Many, but to name a few is:
-RC (Roman Catholics) believe that divorcing is a sin. | E (Episcopalians) do not.
-RC doesn't support LGBT rights. | E do.
-RC do not believe in having female leaders. | E do.
-RC do not think that priests, deacons or any 'servant of God' should marry. Why? Because it would mean you love your spouse more than God and heaven forbid that would happen. | E believes in marriage and the joining of two persons.

A lot of other stuff as well but... I don't want to offend others. It's completely fine for Roman Catholics to believe in what they want, I'm just pointing out differences.

Just because I am Episcopalian does not mean I am highly religious. Sure, I say a prayer before dinner. I go to church every Sunday. I believe in God and a lot other stuff, but I wouldn't say I'm a... 'devout' religious person. And that isn't because... really living your faith is a lot to ask of a younger person but just because... religion isn't my life.

I do sing in my churches choir and that is the motto.

Sorry for that long reply, I just usually... have a tendency to talk about religion because a lot of people assume that because I believe in Jesus and God and all of that I am Christian.

.... and here is that moment when I realise you said Christian not Catholic... I'm sorry. But now you know xD Although I'm pretty sure you know of the differences of the two faiths.

Cheers x

I actually don't think that Christian refers to Roman Catholic. Protestants are also Christians. For myself, I am neither Roman Catholic nor Episcopalian. I would use the terms "evangelical" and "born-again". I guess the few things you mentioned about what Episcopalians do are in line with your personal beliefs? I wonder what exactly do you mean when you say you believe in Jesus and God when it seems to me you are a nominal Christian, praying and attending services as a part of your religion. To me, believing in Jesus and God is a lot more. Anyway, I didn't mean to start a conversation on religion, but if you want to talk about it, you're welcome to PM me so we can continue the conversation off the forum.

Otherwise, happy cubing!
