Hi

I'm Mark and my sister got me a cube for Christmas and I've been hooked on it since.

It's a bog standard Rubiks brand and so far I've learned 2 look OLL PLL and am working on F2L (slowly) - I average 2m02s using beginners method. Not great, but not bad for a couple of weeks.

going to treat myself to some shiny new faster cubes once I can get to around 2 mins using F2L, stumbled across this forum on my travels so thought I'd sign up.

Yeah, I remember those good times, (pun not intended) I remember when I kept telling my friends, "WOW, NEW RECORD 2 MINUTES". Then the next day I got down to 1:30. I wish it could be like that all the way to sub 10, crazy improvement.

The Law of Diminishing Returns is a PITA. Am now averaging about 5 mins for F2L, though from what I read it's normal to take forever for the first week or so once you stop using beginners method. Had a couple of lucky solves sub 90s when F2L just fell into place though I still tend to get stuck on the last pair and/or forget which slot is empty and mess up stuff I've already done.

I decided to order some new cubes anyway, I have a stickered and a stickerless zanchai and a v2 aulong coming, hopefully I can get down to sub 2 mins before they get here once I have more F2L stuff memorised.


I think I'l be happy once I get to sub30, though I thought I'd be happy at 2 mins when I didn't know how to solve at all last week...
 
So I'm going to use this thread to document my progress. Seems as good a place as any.

I am now the proud owner of 2 Zhanchis and an Aulong. I was averaging around 2 mins on the old Rubiks brand cube.

I am now averaging around 2 mins on one of the new cubes. though I'm using F2L now and not beginners method.

8th Jan 2015 - ao5 2m12 PB 1:37 - CFOP (2look OLL 2 look PLL)
8th Jan 2015 - ao5 3m07 PB 1.54 - Roux (2 look OLL and PLL)

Will try and update this once a week, though my business is eating time atm. My goal is to get to sub30 ao5 with both methods in the next 3 months.
 
Hey mate.

My times went up by about a minute when I switched to F2L, but a week later they were back to what they were before.

Hopefully be faster soon.

CFOP getting much faster - Roux not going so well

As of last night my CFOP ao5 was 1m31s and my single PB was 1m7s.

I still haven't tried Roux.
