Hello I guess I will call myself SenileGenXer here.

I am very close to 40 years old. My background includes art, video, photography, and computers. I am the father of two daughters, both are a little young even for the crowd here.

I have been cubing for about 14 months. I do the Fredrick method. I learned from Rob0629 on youtube and at first I learned on a slow lockup prone 5x5x5 rubrik's professor. Now I have some better cubes including a Da Yan GuHong.

I don't have a timer and I dont look at the cube before solving. I solve at about 35-40 seconds. I am going to improve that.

Hi, Welcome to the forums.
Yay, for more 'mature' cubers :)
It's interesting that you don't give yourself inspection time, finding the optimal cross can be an interesting little puzzle in itself.

I have several reasons not to have a timer or use preinspection:

One part is I just do this for my pleasure. Perhaps to give order to one small part of a very disordered life. I only want to be plugged into the cube not the timer. It's a zen thing, it's the bere minimum, ten fingers and a cube. If I want a challenge I try to scramble and unscramble while stuck at a traffic light. How long will the light last? With no preinspection it's more street theater. I can choose to be away from the world just cubing or I can be showing off to the world and the only thing that mediates that is my choice.

The Biggest reason is I am not in it to be competitive. I'm not in it to go to a competition. I would be a jerk to try to steal a young kid's glory and I would be a failure as well. I'm not as fast or as smart. Seriously they used to have leaded gasoline, it put lead everywhere in the environment and shaved an average 3 IQ points off my generation. The twelve-year-olds doing ZBLL on this forum have no clue how terrifyingly fast and smart they are.

Welcome to the forums! It's always nice to see more older people here.

You got a few things wrong... I don't mean to criticize you about it, but if you want, you can take a look at the spoiler.
Fredrick -> Fridrich
rubrik's -> Rubik's (although people just call the Rubik's Professor Cube "5x5" or "5x5x5" around here)
preinspection -> inspection (I don't know why people say "preinspection", the term doesn't actually make sense)
"I would be a jerk to try to steal a young kid's glory" - I disagree. Cubing is not about age, because a 7 year old can be as fast as a 20 year old or a 40 year old. Don't feel like you have an unfair advantage over younger people, but also, don't feel like they have an unfair advantage over you. Honestly, the biggest differences between you and a 13-year-old who averages 12 seconds are the way that they practice and the amount of free time they have to do it.
"shaved an average 3 IQ points off my generation" - This may be true, but IQ has very little to do with cubing, and besides, IQ varies much more than 3 points. I think we could choose members on this forum that are easily over 50 IQ points apart. So don't worry about it and just enjoy the cube :)

To everyone who said hi, thank you and hello. To everyone who corrected me, Thank you as well and hello.

I am an atrocious speller, especially of proper names. I'm sorry. They sneak through spell check much easier.
