Hello/ 4x4 center trouble

Hello,
I have been solving cubes for a few months now just for fun. I just use some beginner methods, but I like to solve magics, 3x3s, pyraminxs, and 2x2s which are the puzzles i have...
My newest puzzle is the 4x4 and I need help with my centers. My problem is when i need to move a 2x1 center down, i cant do it without messing something else up. Is there an algorithm or sumthing i need to do
