could this small F2L alg same some time...

(just for arguments sake its white cross on the top)
say you have just solved the top side apart from one corner in the bottom right corner on the top layer (U face), and the corner that is missing is below it, e.g bottom right hand corner on F.

to place that corner it would be - D' R' D R - BUT the second layer edge peice is already in its correct place...so if you did - B d' R' D' R d B' - that would put the corner in and not move the oriented pair.

would this save time at all?

Not sure about your alg... but he's right, solve the cross somewhere else other than the top.

You used to solve it on the top as well but thought I would give this 'cross-on-the-bottom' thing ago and it help's quite a bit, you can look a head to F2L, no cube rotation, no need to rotate the D face.

Since going from cross on U to D my ave time dropped like 7 or 8 seconds.

if you solve the cross on the bottom how are you meant to see what corners your putting in and whether the cross is right, i find it easyer on the top...
i can do F2L with the cross on the top and bottom so its easyer.

To know the cross is right you should know the color scheme of your cube so from any side you know which colors are adjacent, then it's not really different to doing it on top, its just upside down :-\

Then with the C/E pairs you can spot the edges and the corners alot easier because they are on top looking you in the face, rather than underneath where you cant see - allowing you to look ahead rather and making for faster/easier finger tricks.

Grab a solved cube and do R U' R'

That is pretty common setup of a edge and corner in relation to each other, now to slot that in its just R U R'..... Thats pretty quick, you should be able to do that in a fraction of a second.

Yet do that with the cross on the top and its not as easy.

Your "algorithm" is a good one Myke. It's been done before, but nonetheless it is a good way to use 'keyhole' to insert a corner and preserve an edge. Taking the edge out, matching it up to its corner, and inserting them together is arguably quicker, but they're both good. Keep exploring those kinds of c/e insertions and you might surprise yourself. :)

This reminds me of me trying to find a decent site to teach a friend of mine to do the cube 'beginners' way. All the sites does it the cross up, and it might be the good way to teach, but (at least in this case) it's not the way to learn. So I'm all like "yeah, not like this... or this... noooooo... damn.".
I want a site that teaches beginners method cross on bottom, and yellow on top :P

Though kudos for you MYKE if you've got 36.54 with cross on top. You'll easily get like 25-30 just turning your cube upside down. ;)

good job on finding that alg! there is nothing better than when you discover something on your own!

I am gonna go with the others. you should start to practice solving with cross on the bottom. after a little while you would never go back! trust me :)
