So I just got back into speedcubing as a friend bought a cube and im helping him learn it. However im finally moving away from 4 look last layer and trying to learn full PLL. For H Perm I used to always do M2 U M2 U2 M2 U M2

However I recently found R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U' that accomplishes the same thing and I think there are finger tricks for it that im missing. My question is how do you guys R2 U2 R2 quickly? it feels awkward and I dont know if I should wrap my right hand around U when I come up but then I have to reset. If I do a left finger flick for U it also feels off, so what am I missing? is M2 still the way to go?

When you do the turns do you use your wrist to turn or your index finger to turn it because using your wrist will be slower and sore.

There's this fingertrick for the R2 H-perm:
The M2 version is probably easier to get faster at, if you just do the M2 the same way as a U2 flick; do one M move with the middle finger and follow up with the ring finger - shouldn't be a problem getting sub 1 with that alg if you keep that in mind.

Nobody fast (that I can think of) uses the R U algs, apart from in OH, so it's probably best to stick to the M U alg. Also, depending on which finger you use to do Ms, you might want to try using U's instead of Us.

Hey guys thanks for all the reply's! I dont use my wrist in response to Drad, havnt since I first solved the cube :P I got decently fast at the M2 version but I thought maybe there were finger tricks I was missing for the R U one. I just feel so awkward doing the M2 alg but if it is the alg of choice I will work on perfecting it! Thanks all

In response to Darja I am already well under 1 working on breaking sub 30 on a 10 solve avg. but the middle finger ring finger flick is a good idea! I will keep it in mind.

Like other people said, while MU is very good for normal solves, an RU alg is good for OH, and even common among fast solvers. So it's still useful to know. But I'd recommend this one instead: R2 U2 R' U2 R2 U2 R2 U2 R' U2 R2. It's only 1 move shorter than the one you posted (in QTM), but those quarter turns break up the solve a little and help it flow better. Usually this alg is listed with [R]s instead of [R']s, but I changed it for ergonomic purposes. Still works.

Also, I'm guessing you're using some mobile app that records Average of 10, as opposed to an Average of 12 ("SpeedCube Timer" is one of the most popular apps that does Ao10's). You'll find that most speedcubers will keep track of and compare Ao12's instead. This is because an 'Average' (in cubing terms) drops the best and worst times, then finds the mean of the remaining solves. In an Ao12, that leaves 10 solves... a nice round number. Using this as a metric means that very lucky solves don't help you as much during an average, very bad solves don't hurt as much, and the remaining solves are more representative of your speed, on the whole.

Most apps that use Ao10's will simply give you the mean of 10 consecutive solves, without dropping best and worst times. If you want to more accurately compare yourself to the rest of the community, I'd switch apps to something that records Ao12's instead.
