As the title says. What if I put a MARU core to my GuHong. I'm now using Alpha 'Slim' Core.

And, many people recommend changing the screw+spring on the mefferts megaminx.

The problem is that with the megaminx. The core is already 'gripped' by the mefferts screw.
I fear that the new non-mefferts screw re-grip the core and makes it weaker etc.

So, what are your suggestion?

-Thanks-

I don't own a Guhong, but based on the reviews and the hype about it, I think it's a pretty good cube overall and should not be tampered with.

The cores in the GuHongs all seem to have an odd side. With the DIYs you have to make a larger opening on it to get the screw in and there's small imperfections on that side which I sand down. I haven't had any problem with the core unscrewing but I suppose out of around 10 GuHongs only 3 get used alot.

u mean one screw hole is too small right?

oh, i use a different core

make a larger opening with a blade, is that what you mean?

Chris's video

Riiiight. Cause there's just one Chris in cubing.

Chris: The old screws in that megaminx, how did they look? Were they long and had a "built-in washer" (meaning a wide head, larger than the round hole inside the piece)? Or short with small head that fit into the round hole? I've seen the latter in older stickered Meffert's megaminxes, and I would replace those as well. If they were the former, I think those are perfect and just the springs are bad (if they're the very long and strong kind). Always good to show "before pictures" :D

Oh, and one more thing.

I heard on u tube there's a new megaminx version from mefferts with screw+spring that YOU helped to design...

why do you need a washer at the top? as long as i know i only use washer on the bottom, preventing the spring eating trough the plastic

EDIT: Chris= MonkeyDude1313

Finally got the joke lol.
And, for GuHong, leave it. It is awesome how it is. If it is already assembled, don't bother. If you take it apart it might be hard to put back together. It it is disassembled, go ahead if you can't fit the screw in.
